FYI for CDIAs.

Looks like CompTIA is changing the CDIA designation to CDIA+, consistent with its other certs. The change is not officially taking place until February 2002, and at that time current CDIAs can request a replacement certificate for a $15 processing fee.

Their site states that only 2,800 people are CDIA certified. I'd sure like to see more people take this one, so more people in IT become aware of it. It's a good exam, even if your not in the document imaging industry.

I'm taking the test 1/29/02. I've studied for this over the last few months. How was the test?

If you're using Specialized Solutions or the @doc book they both covered the material covered in the exam pretty equally. It is especially helpful if you've been using the Specialized Solutions practice exams also.

A large chunk of the material covered in the exam, you would already have seen in the other CompTIA exams you've taken

For the CDIA specific information, be pretty strong using the equations presented throughout the study material. The equations aren't hard, and if you're generally good at mathematics they are probably grossly easy. As I recall, in some cases you may be given a scenario or case study and have several questions following that case.

This was not an easy exam, so don't take it for granted. However, I found the material to be very helpful. Even though I don't work at a specific document imaging environment, the knowledge is so useful most anywhere that there a paper record still used. For example, one former employer aquired a company with blueprints and data from the 30s and 40s -filing cabinet after filing cabinet - and used the technology to scan the data to files. They did this shortly after I finished the exam, and although I was a contractor, and unable to be closely involved in the project, I did get the opportunity to talk with the analysts setting up the system, so learned a lot that way.

Let us know how you do! Hope I've answered your questions.

I took the exam this morning with an 81. Lower than I really expected, but I'm happy. It's a funny thing. I've been doing this kind of work for 4-5 years for various companies (building Document Control Systems) but didn't know anything about the CDIA program at Comptia until I took my A+ in June of 2000. I saw the certification there while reviewing their A+ program on Comptia's web site. Thanks for your comments!

Congrats!!! I responded to your mail, sorry it wasn't in time, but I'm certainly glad you passed. I wonder if your certificate will already have the CDIA with "+" on it. That is supposed to happen in March, and I have to pay $15 to get mine.

What's next?

Hello all,

For those of you wondering what changes might be made to the CDIA+ going live at the end of March (or so), it seems to deal with imaging concerns, project management (which is raising my interest in the IT Project+ that CompTIA offers), Web issues, such as security and concepts like RAID, NAS and SAN. If I find out anything else, I shall post it. Good luck to you all and get some more alphabet soup!

Help, I am preping for the CDIA + and have a few questions. In the cd rom instuctional training by Byron. He states that the throughput is 70%. What is on the test?

Hope I made myself clear.

Thanks fellas

This has to do a calculation that is used to figure out the speed of scanners.

Scanner rated speed times throughput gives the actual operating speed.

for example:

Scanner speed = 40 pages per minutes
Throughput = 70%
Operating speed is 28 ppm

There are many calculations on the test that you need to figure out things like this.

Throughput can vary due to rescanning, machine problems, etc.

Hello,

If the scanner is rated at 25 ppm and the throughput is 80%, the calculation for throughput is as follows:

25 x .80 = 20 ppm
