| I have just recently passed 210 + 215 and have been studying for 217 which i was told is the easiest way to go before starting 216, is this true? Also i have been getting 75+ in the cert21 practice exams(the full exam) and i have only been studying for the 217 for about 3 weeks now. Am i ready for the exam.
If anyone has any views on this please let me know. | |

| I'm taking the same route as you are. I took 210, 215, & 217, and now working on 216. I feel that taking 217 before 216 helped me. 217 has a lot of DNS questions that are also covered in 216. You don't say if you have any hands-on experience. If not, try to setup a server with Active Directory and learn how the concepts come into play. My 217 exam was 65 questions. Had plenty of time, even though it took me a solid 2 hours to finish. Even though I teach a class on 217 at a technical college, there were some questions that I had never seen before. One study guide I used besides the MCSE training Kit, which I use in my class, was Troytec. Many questions were word-for-word.

| I'd say is better to have 216 first,(I did so) to learn more about DNS problems. 217 has many questions about DNS (for some it may not be so obvious.

| if you take the 216 first
the the 217 should be easy
for each w2k exam i used the mspress books, exam cram books, a small home lab
for self testing i been using transcender
so far i am passed 3( and didnt fail any yet thank god) | |

| Which ever way you go (network or AD) take both the exams for that route close together, and maybe again on the latter take. (for instance: 216 then 221, then move on to 217 and 219) That's what I did.
As for which to take first, there are many and differing opinions, but really, it's what you feel the most comfortable with:
Protocols/TCP/DNS/WINS/DHCP/DDNS
AD/OU/GPO/DNS/GC/Schema
Most people I know thought that 216 was the wall.

| Psydefx is right. You have to have at least 1 design exam for the MCSE. Also, I'd go for 217 before 218. It will get you up to par on AD. | |

| I loved the design exams more than any other. I took both 220 & 221. I think those really measure how much you know and what your field experience is. As for the Troytec using dude I'm sorry you don't have what it takes to be a real MCSE that you have to memorize every questions to pass the exam. Later. | |

| Who said anything about memorizing anything? I read all material that I can because my line of work requires me to be as versed as possible on the topics. I do not believe in memorizing or relying on braindumps for exams because that doesn't prove you know anything. Not only do I manage a W2k multiple domain network with over 1200 users, file & print, Exchange 2000, SQL 2000, and web servers, I also am an Instructor at a State accredited technical college. I teach courses in 215, 216, 217, 219, & 220. Many of my students pass their certs after finishing my classes. As far as taking the cert exams, they're NOT required for my job. What is required is a college degree and a MINIMUM 3 years working in the networking field. I'm taking the certs for my own personal satifaction. | |
