| Ok, I have been strictly Windows until I had some training recently that involved alot of hands on with a Sun E450 server. I got real interested in Solaris and downloaded Solaris 8 from Sun's website. I burned the ISO's onto 3 different CDs and they are fine. My question, how do I got about installing Solaris on a PC. Just one PC , I'm not trying to instsll it on a partition or anything. If someone could give me a step-by-step I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance ! | |

| On the site where you download the iso images that you burned to cd you can also download the boot disk. Download the boot disk (you have to write the boot disk to floppy using "dd") and you should be all set. Just follow the prompts. All of the info is on sun's web site.
Good luck,

| If your PC is capatible of booting from the CD-ROM, you should not need the boot disk. Check your BIOS to see.
Also, check to see if Solaris will support your computer/hardware. I had trouble installing on brand name computers (Dell and Packard Bell), but it installed like a champ on a computer I built.
Good Luck

| I am also running an E450 at work and working on my SCSA.
I got Solaris 8 (Intel) working on a crusty, old IBM 300GL. I needed the boot disk (from the Sun site) to get the OS installed.
Check this site out. Has FAQs and walk-throughs: http://sun.drydog.com
Good luck in your pursuit of SCSA. I'm there next to ya!
