MCSD - please guide me

Hi...

I want to get mscd.net certification but I don't have any previous experience in VB/VC/ASP/HTML/COM/DCOM and windows programming.

Should I learn VB5/VB6/ASP first or I can go stragiht learning .NET. Which is the best way to get mscd.net for a beginner.

Also is it necessary to join institutes or get a certification or u can do it thru help of books, dumps and on-line help.

if possible, please reply in detail.

My experience says that try to get enrolled in a college and get basic feel of programming and than decide your road map.... and then buy good microsoft books, study and do your exam...

Well I also think that first u shud join a
college or an private inst. like NIIT or STG. Well VB or ASP or any other programming language can't be learnt through books, you gotta have an on hand experience of all that. Its better if u get some help. Books are just for assitance and when u get to knw these prog languages then u can buy an MCSD books and search for dumps online or buy some.

Personal opinion: crack the sucker open. There are theoretical concepts beyond the programming and application development. These are best gained through study (either institutional or unsupervised) but for the core development, I believe nothing beats simply creating apps. The product will set you back quite a bit but not as much as some of the courses being offered out there. I would go straight to the .NET languages. As for which one is easier to learn, I think Visual Basic if you've never programmed before.

As for HTML, you can actually get around hand coding now (although it still does come in handy). There are plenty of online tutorials on it and it's pretty simple actually.

If you pick up VB or C#, ASP.NET is basically the same skillset.

As for COM, DCOM, Remoting, threading and architecture, that's a whole separate discussion.

I would agree with everyone else, start out with a couple of courses. I wouldn't attempt any of the MCSD exams without having some experience first with the given product (VB 6.0 using COM, SQL Server, etc), these exams are extremely trickly by design and you will have to rely on experience to weed out red herrings in some of the questions. Your best bet is to start by taking a course and practice the exam objectives by writing code like crazy.

I started this process by having only some VB experience and I have (after much studying and suffering) passed 70-175 and 70-176 and am about to take 70-100. It has taken me alot longer than I thought but I will get through it.
