Hi!

I am starting on MCSD with VB Desktop & Distributed. I don't have enogh reading material. I am relying on The boring MSDN!

Does anyone know of some good sites to find free good VB reading material?
Some loving person can also E-mail me his/her reading material.Any help is appreciated.

You are right that MSDN can be boring but it contains articles and book excerpts that are just as interesting and informative as anything else out there. I used books to study for these tests but when I had any question about what the book was saying, I went back to MSDN. You can go to www.transcender.com and download sample tests that will give you a very good idea what to expect on the real one.
Above all you need to practice everything by writing and executing real code. For the desktop exam you will need to know the Package and Deployment Wizard very well and understand Visual SourceSafe and the distributed exam will require a good understanding of Microsoft Transaction Server.
Good Luck

Hello, Thinker

Thanx for your advice. Let me crack my books, and use MSDN for reference.

More advice is welcome.

Congratulations FredB. I remember how good it felt to pass that test. It was the first one I took.
For the Distributed test make sure you learn the basics about DCOM and MTS Server. Also, there will be some SQL questions testing your understanding of basic syntax. And more ADO but less PD&W.

Good Luck!

For VB I used the MCSD Visual Basic 6 by Howard Hawhee, New Riders. For 100 I used MCSD Solution Architectures by Randy Cornish and others, New Riders. While this is the best book out there for the 100 test, no book can really get you through it. It requires a real understanding of creating application systems (workflows, dataflows, design analysis) and relational databases. I used the MSDN library extensively for all. And I don't think I could have passed the tests on the first try without the Transcender tests to let me know what was coming.

Thanx BootData,

I would say the exam was not as hard as I had expected it. It was dominated with questions from: COM development, Package & Deployment, Error Handling, and ADO.

This Being my first Exam, I had invested more time, and effort.

Hi Thinker, I'm using the same book also for the VB exams...so far it's quite good.
I will try to get the MSDN if I can.

It is hard to give any specific advice without knowing your background and what you already know. Are you already a Visual Basic or C++ programmer? Do you have experience building database applications for Client/Server or n-Tier architectures?
