| Hi, Im 23 years old, and have a 2-year computer diploma in CISY. I'm kinda stuck in limbo not knowing where to go from here  Should I try to get some certs or go back to school and get a bachlors, or just leave IT altogether? It seems I always make the wrong decisions, so I would value anyones suggestion(s). Thanks. | |

| Well, quitting the industry before you ever get into the industry doesn't sound like a wise choice.
Get a job on a helpdesk, computer repair store, or as a technician. While you're getting real world experience, get some certs. A+ is always useful for people just starting out. Take at least one Microsoft exam so you can put MCP on your resume. After a year or two, start looking for a better paying job. If you have the moxy, work on getting your Bachelor's degree part time. Once you have a Bachelor's degree, some certs and a few years experience, you should be in pretty good shape.

| DO get your degree. It DOES matter. From what I have personally seen, an Associates really is only effective for local-area jobs.
For example, an associates from Mobile, AL won't get much respect from a company located in San Jose, CA, whereas the qualification of a Bachelor's is immensely more powerful.
Local job-wise, an associates will still not compare to a Bachelors. Whether you see the value in a degree 1 or 10 years down the road, it does matter. Definetly finish the Bachelor's, and do what you can in the meantime, i.e, part-time job, certifications, or both if you can.
