| This year has been great. I make $100k at my day job as a Network Admin, Teach IT certification classes at night (6 hours a week) for another $20k, and just took over some contracts for a friend that give me another $36k for 20 hours a month.
So this year I expect to make over $150k with around 15 years of experience. | |

| WOW, I hope after 15 years I am earning that much, I am quite new to the IT industry I have only been doing it for 11 months, I am an IT Field engineer but I only earn £19K, do having qulifications really make a difference? | |

| In my case they have. I find the techs and engineers that have spent their time learning, gaining valuable experience, providing excellent customer service, and being a team player usually have done decently, if not really well, after some years of experience.
In my case, after 7 years, my salary started at about $27K and is now about $60K. However, I have spent much of my free time studying for certifications and taking classes beyond the daily work week.
The techs I've seen sit on their hands and who have stopped putting that extra effort to learning often get left behind. |
