| Well it was a short lived career 5 years.
The last year spent looking for a job. with no luck. week here and there all contract garbage. Should be illegal. But I am out of the IT thing not enof money or good paying jobs to go around.they say it is on the up swing but allready they are advertizing it is hot. And trying to flood the field agian. So they don't have to pay any money. Tierd of jobs with out benifts and no pension. Back to construction where they pay you like an American and not an foreigner. real money real good benifts and a great pension. Thank God for Unions...
Can not say that I don't like the work itself just no money and have to pay the bills. Maybe when we get a real President in office and things realy get better I will come back but for now I am out of here.

| Sorry about the misfortune.
I'm currently making almost half of what I made in 2000. I'm riding it out in hopes that salaries will get better.

| Consider yourselves lucky. I received my first job offer in three and a half years, but I can't take advantage of it unless and until I am granted a work visa. | |

| I found myself having the same problem. With the only job openings ive been seeing be Helpdesk jobs that require an MCSE and CNE but pay 25,000 to 30,000 a year i was very discouraged. So i started my own business its not making me rich yet but its slowly getting better. Good luck to everyone tryign to find a tech job hopefully you have better luck than i was having. | |

I can not say I feel for you that is half the problem here in the US allowing work Visa's. This should not be until all the IT people here in the US have a IT job that pay's good. Although I do hope you get a good job in Canada. | |

I also have a little buz going on the side just can not pay the bills with the income from it yet. Once you do IT it is hard to stop no sense in throwing away all that I have learned. | |

Perhaps. But Americans are free to work here, and maybe the combination of a higher C$ and the big GOP win in November will encourage left-leaning American I.T. professionals to take advantage of their Canadian work privileges, making the north-south flow less one-sided.
And, the same complaints you raised about Canadians working in the U.S. are raised here about Americans. For example, a number of U.S. workers were allowed to come to Vancouver to work in the construction industry; the contractors say that it was because they couldn't find local applicants, while the unions say that the contractors weren't willing to pay enough. I am inclined to believe the unions. | |

My complaint is not just the canadians its all workers crossing the line of any country. no matter what country that may be. There needs to be stronger rules that protect the workers in there home countries from the greedy practies of Corporate absue on there workers. 4 more years of Bush is a scary thing. | Fat chance of that. There is almost no protection for Canadian I.T. workers from foreign competetition; almost anyone with a degree can get in fast-tracked. |
