Hi,
i live in Santa Clara, CA. i am currently a office system coorditnator. i am the only IT guy in the building supporting a+bout 50 users. plus i am part=time. we have an IT consultant that comes in once a week.( i have no one to go to when serious problems arise) we are running windows 2000 server with SQL server.

i have 3 years of cisco training, network+ and A+.

my first question is what should i study so i can do a better job? i am already planning to get MCSE. should i study database DB? SQL? database admins. are very valuable right now?

or forget all the certs and go get my B.S in MIS? you think it will worth getting the degree? i already have a pretty good job that can give me expereice.

please tell me my future will be? and which field i should go into?

thanks

I say go for MCSA, then MCDBA. I don't know your schedule or your money situation, but it will probably take a year or more to get the certs.

Database administrators are in very high demand in my area (Tennessee).

What other services do you run on your network?

DHCP, DNS, NAT, RAS, VPN, Active Directory?

Do you administer them or does the consultant?

If you administer everything, you have a great opportunity to learn. The network is small, so you can implement things fairly quickly. I always think small networks are a great learning experience.

I agree, goto MCSA and MCDBA...

If u are into DB, then Oracle.
