A+ won't get you into the Micorsoft Corp., but I'd recommend something like "BestBuy" or "Compusa". These places, to my understanding hire A+ technicians for their repair and fixit centers. Not sure about the pay ratio though. It would give you a good foundation for "on the job experience."

You could also look for any Helpdesk or user support analyst positions available in your area. Those, I would think, pay better and you'd learn more as you go.

Your absolute best option would be to join the armed forces for 1 term and get some hands on experience that will carry you into a good job when you get out.

Great advice Freddy. Oh, and when they ship you off to Iraq just remember what great experience it is to get shot in the face. Joining the armed forces involves a lot more than IT training. See how quickly they extend your 1 term to 2 terms when problems arise overseas.

While in school, ur best bet is a large computer store (Fry's, CompUSA, BestBuy). You can also look for local computer repair shops. Or you can look at computer parts sellers/distributors like Greybar.

As a young student, you will not find any good paying jobs (only $7 - $9/hr depending on your location). But it is WELL worth it in the long run.

50 times more people die in automobile accidents EVERY YEAR than has died in iraq in the past year so does that mean you dont drive either??

you obviously have never served. they cannot extend your service unless you re-enlist. when you sign up you agree to a 4 year active duty with 2 years reserve. they can make you serve your 2 years reserve on active duty just like any other rerserve member.

but we need to realize that less than 5% of our military is in iraq. the fact is, you most likely will not go.

another fact is that the military provides one of the best places to get ojt in any entry level field. military experience is highly desired in the civilian IT field. also nowadays(unlike when i was in)the military pays much better than anyplace you will find in the civilian sector for entry level work.

I guess I was wrong. Getting shot in the face is not an option in Iraq. They prefer decapitation.

Just wanted to see how sure you were about your army knowledge:

WASHINGTON - The Army is preparing to notify about 5,600 retired and discharged soldiers who are not members of the National Guard or Reserve that they will be involuntarily recalled to active duty for possible service in Iraq (news - web sites) or Afghanistan (news - web sites), Army officials said Tuesday.

If you wanted technical training (IT, Electronics, Communications etc..) why in the world would you join the Army. The Navy and Air Force have much better training. The Air Force also has their own college and I would doubt that there are very many Navy personnel on ground in Iraq. The military is not for everyone but it does have it's good points. One of the best is that they pay a percentage (up to 90%) of your college tuition.

Americans has become such cry babies...

in all the previous wars, we and the world all suffer tremendous casualties...

we get a few hundred kill in iraq and all the bleeding heart liberals cries foul

sigh, perhaps we really need to toughen up, those years of prosperity has bred generations of worthless tree huggers.

the only way you can be called back into the service is if you have reserve time left.

We currently have 140,000 soldiers in Iraq. If your statement is true, that means we have over 2,800,000 soldiers in our military?!?

If that's the case, why do we have to extend service for thousands of our soldiers over there?

I think you need to check your math.

Joining the military is a great idea. But, if you want IT training, stick with the Navy or Air Force. In the Marines, you're primary job is always infantry. The army has lots of pseudo-IT positions that require duty in hot spots like Iraq.

I got my IT start in the Navy way back in 1987. During my time in, I went to college part time with the Navy picking up the tab. Once I got out, I used the GI Bill to finish my BS degree.

Now I'm an IT Manager for a govt contractor. The military is a great way to go. Heck, you might even like it.

Good Luck!

yep the Army has something like 240 job titles compared to the Air Force and Navy that have over a thousand each.

granted they also have plenty of WMD titles, but they also have several IT positions and electronic tech positions too.

I am a Desert Storm Veteran. In the army, they put a clause in your contract that states that at any time they can pull you from whatever MOS you have and make you infantry. Of course, this is very unlikely that this will happen, but you are still trained like an infantryman in Basic Training.

No back to the real subject at hand. Because of my military experience, I have a huge advantage over others for getting a job, plus the fact that Uncle Sam paid for half of my college degree.

Oh, by the way, I was a cook , but I still saw the death and destruction. There aint nothing nice about seeing chared, burnt corpses hanging over the side of a blown up truck!

Here are some stat for you:
