I have a quick question for you guys. Do you think the MCDST (Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician) Certification will hold any weight anywhere? I'm going to get it regardless because its really easy but do you think it will actually help when seeking employment? It covers exams 70-271 & 70-272 which is basically support XP. Just wondered what your thoughts were

If it is easy for you to get, and you have the extra cash, get it. Another cert is better than not. Although, it is probably like much of the MS certs carrying little if no weight these days.

It seems like more specialized areas with a little experience pays the highest dividends. Maybe, VOIP, or heavy duty telecom stuff. Although, resumes with certs will definitely get the first glance by the recruiters and a better shot getting in the door to the interview.

Peace!

Well I'm on my way. I passed the 070-271 today and will be taking the 070-272 on Wednesday. It was pretty easy and like you said it will look good on my resume. Thanks for the feedback guys

What material are you using to study? I plan on pursuing this one.

To be perfectly honest, for this exam I had no clue what to study so I purchased a braindump and memorized it and not one question from it was on the exam! (What a waste of money) Basically if you have used Windows XP Home Edition and Professional and have minor networking experience it should be no problem. It asked questions about File Sharing, DNS Name Resolution issues, Remote Assistance and just generic questions regarding using XP in a networked environment. Also you must remember that XP Home CANNOT join a Domain although Pro can so don't let them confuse you. A friend of mine took 070-270 instead of the 070-210 for his MCSE track and said that the 070-270 questions were very similar from what I told him. The exam is 64 questions so it is a little more forgiving than most MS tests that are 50-55 questions. You still need a 700 to pass and with no studying at all I made a 783 just because I have been using XP for like 2 years in a networked environment. I know this isn't much but I hope it helps you some.

Thanks. Dumps are always a waste, for you and for me.

Yeah this was my first time trying out a braindump and it is an experience I will never try again. Like I said before not one question was on the actual exam that I took. I have a set of Microsoft Press books that I was given while attending a Microsoft Bootcamp and they pretty much stink but its all I have to use for now besides Transcenders. Well I need to get some rest because I take the 70-272 tomorrow.....err I meant today cause its like 3am here. Wish me luck guys. I'll post and let you guys know how I do tomorrow

I passed the 70-272 today to receive my MCDST certification. This test was pretty easy too. With no studying I made an 809 which is pretty decent. It was basically about XP, Office XP and Outlook. If you have used any of those programs and have common sense you could pass this test. I take the 70-224 tomorrow for my MCSA:Messenging cert so wish me luck.

Congrats. The Microsoft training manuals I've always found to be a bit lacking compared to other material. I hope to take these exams in the next couple months. Right now I'm working to finish MCSA.
