| Has anyone here ever worked as a computer technician at a pc store to get his foot on the door?
What career path or change of luck have you had since then?
My husband has been in the U.S. over a year now. To gain local experience, he immediately worked as a pc tech at a major computer chain. Even in that lowly, entry-level job, he was driven and committed all throughout. He would receive commendations from customers every now and then. My heart melts when he attaches them on his emails.
In a short time he got the Top Service Technician award. However, he was pulled out from the pc tech position and was given a Management Trainee job. Maybe they saw his people skills that he could lead a team of techs.
After a couple of months he became Supervisor2 for Technical Services Dept. Then recently to Supervisor1. Problem is, he does not want to go any further at any management job.
He worked hard for his CCNA and A+ that he got nice scores, 925 and 858 respectively. He also has an AS and BS degree in Computer Science. His fervent wish at this point in his life is to put to use his CCNA knowledge at any menial capacity he can. | |

| San Jose, CA is where my husband is right now. I guess it's really tough out there.
I am in disbelief when two of his cousins, who both actually work at Cisco, couldnt help him get any entry-level work there.

| well.. it's really tough considering he doensnt have any experience in a LAN environment.. but his CCNA should help.. btw, im working on that now.. | |

| That's true.. No local experience yet with LAN, but back home he does. Final grade he got on his Cisco Networking Academy is "A".
If I.T. would not have been his passion, then he should have joined me here in handling the affairs of my family's construction business..which modesty aside, is quite lucrative.
Anyways, no need to rush. Knowing him, he'll be fine. Just hoping that the market would open up soon. And that networking with relatives and friends will yield good results later on.

In 1999 studied with a lady that led the Dallas's Cisco's users group CCIE program.
She was also a member of Cisco's internal CCIE study group. Still, no job for her.
My cousin, and my friend of 15 years are both senior executives at Verizon, and Cingular, neither can get me in the door these days. I have 20 years of IT experience in networking.
