If you were asked a question in an interview like what are the differences in terms of clients on Win 98, 2000 and XP pro for outlook. This question got me thinking. Hence was't sure if there any differences apart from say maybe gui enhancements.

Second question if after an interview the prospective employee contacts your boss for a reference is that a good sign or is it normal. The reason being that from my own experience most companies tend to ask for a reference prior to the interview but this one's the other way round. Thanks for your contribulations in the mean time.

Well the first question you could say along the lines of security and the fact that Outlook is sitting a more robust system on XP/2000......I don't know the exact details but I would say there are a few ways Outlook interacts with the OS with regards to Outlook' 98/2000 and XP

That is a pretty good sign with regards to the reference, I am in the same situation...I have been verbally offered a position, but the Company want to write to my boss for a reference......problem is I am still waiting for the offer in writing, and I have to tell my boss they are going to write to him!!!!!!

Hi Spides, thanks for the info as I couldnt figure out what the guy was trying to get at from the question. However, I think you have landed your new job though its verbal it still stands till you get your written contract in the post. Did they say when you should be receiving the contract in the post? All is well as I wouldn't worry too much about that as you have come thru the hard and trying part.

Yeah cheers Onoski, I spoke to them today and they said they had to correct some things, so I said I'd pick it up in the morning because I walk past there and they said no probs so I'll have it in the morning,,,,,,,,,chocker is that I reckon my old company are going to sting me for a course they wanted me to do, I didn't ask to go on it and I haven't doen the exams, so I'll have to look into that if they try and take that off me.....

Win9x is single threaded user OS. only one user can be logged on doing whatever they are doing.

Win2k onwards is multiuser threaded. many users can be logged on at the same time doing different things on the underling OS. Similar to *nix based OS articecture.

makes for a much more complicated OS - so you can't even compare the 2 OS's.

It means that they're seriously considering you. If they weren't, they wouldn't be bothering to check your references.

Win9X supports multithreading; it's the older Win16 systems that don't.

Thanks for your contribution guys as I have been offered the position. I.T support officer. To those still looking for a new role or break into I.T there are a few jobs out there just keep at it i.e sending ur CV to agencies, contacting comps directly as well as filling job applications cos if you don't I'd take ur spot. Best wishes from the determined IT Hussler

Hey Tick,

Here are some interview questions that I use when interviewing. Don't just go and memorize them though because eventually a technical preson is going to get to you and you'll have to show them what you really have to offer. Tips: 1) ask about their environment (shows interest and be conversational about similar environments you worked in 2) don't say "I can leearn..." too many times (that just tells people you don't know it enough).

BTW anyone know of any GIAC or CISSP folks looking for work in Chicago area?
