| I got this from my career counselor. Here is a list by What color is your parachute? author Richard Bolles of the top 5 best and worst ways to look for a job. Some may surprise you. He has studied job search methods for over 30 years.
Five best ways to look for work
1. Doing a life-changing job hunt. Takes times and effort but has an 86 percent success rate.
2. Combing the Yellow Pages. Target fields that interest you, then call those employers and ask if they're hiring. 84 percent success rate.
3. Same as above, but by yourself. Doing this alone for some reason has a 69 percent success rate.
4. Knocking on doors. Find a company that interests you, even if they haven't posted a vacancy, and asking about a job. 47 percent success rate.
5. Referrals. Getting job leads from family, friends and professional contacts. 33 percent success rate.
Five worst ways to look for work
1. Using the Internet! Only a 4 percent success rate.
2. Mailing resumes at random. Only seven in 100 job seekers find work by sending unsolicited resumes to employers.
3. Answering ads in trade journals. 7 percent success rate.
4. Answering local newspaper ads. This varies depending on skill level. For high-paying jobs, there's a 5 percent success rate; for others, it's as high as 24 percent.
5. Using employment agencies, search firms. These also have a 5 percent success rate for senior-level jobs, but the figure rises to 28 percent for other positions.

| I don't know about all of them, but two thing I learned from my school career center
1> Be smart and know your ability
2> Know where to find them
3> Luck (personal advise from them)

| I have held four jobs since 1989 and have thankfully never been unemployed.
I found them the following ways.
1. Joined the Army
2. Asked a guy who was in a management position of he had any openings- he did
3. Met a guy who was in a management position and asked him if he had any openings- he did
4. Career builders.com (I feel this last one is a fluke).

| Always seem to get mine through contracting. And most always off my internet resume. ????
But once I am in the door as a contractor, I usually end up full time permanent. |
