| So i'm in college right now, and i'll be getting a BS in Information Technology in december, and then an MS in Information Systems by next year. I also will have completed my CISSP by next year too. Thinking down the road, I plan to go back for a second masters, most probably an MBA from a top 20 school, after 5 or 6 years of experience. I know I can do it because I believe in myself and my abilities. I'll have taken the GRE by this year and the GMAT by next year, and received a high score (yeah it sounds like I'm predicting the future or something, but like I said, I'm confident as hell - I'm of the opinion that the GRE's and GMAT's are no diff. than cert. tests, and any of you who take these cert tests would have ***no problem whatsoever*** on the GRE or GMAT's, which are now adaptive, BTW). I have had work experience in a big five firm for about 2 years at their help desk before getting laid off. I'm also thinking of certifying in Java and learning XML web services as well. Even though I have not had relevant work experience in these areas, how marketable does this make me? I mean, I know I'm competing with alot of talent out there, but I'm thinking that all the knowledge (and practice, just not in a "work environment") gained from my studies would help me look attractive to employers. And of course salary depends on ALOT of factors, but I'm looking to work in New York City, so what kind of salary do you think I could command? I know the market is tough right now, but how about by January 2004?
cheers! | |

| Sounds like you are gaining the credentials. While you are in schools work whenever you can to get more experience and be prepared to start at the bottom somewhere when it is all over. If you do this, I see no reason shy you cannot do well. | |

| How many forums did you post this in? (Best place is the General Forum, as it is just a bit "off" topic for the Exam forums.) Just an FYI.
Good luck to you anyway, hope you reach your goals.

| First of all don't listen to these guys that speak broken english.
Next get experience. It won't mean shit if you have a ton of degree's with no experience to back it up.
I would get your masters along with with your certifications WHILE working part time in IT field. If you hustle through school full time with no experience you could be in trouble. You will have no problems finding jobs just the money won't be so great <50-60k.

| Once you finish your degree, pick a good place to work and stay there for 2 years minimum. You sound sure of yourself and your abilities, I was too when i was your age. Be prepared for the fact that you know absolutley nothing and to have your butt kicked on a regular basis, especially if you work in a bank, until you earn your *stars*. |
