I'm not certified in anything pc wise at the moment, but was considering getting A+ cert.for both OS and hardware.

Supposing I get A+ cert for both-my burning question is can I get a job living in central Arkansas area? I have zero experience in pc repair. Not very helpful. But a guy's gotta start somewhere.

I've been lurking in the IT jobs threads and the prospects of jobs aren't as hot as they were before. I don't want to get A+ cert. only to find I can't get a job. Any suggestions?

if you could find a job and you meet the requirements and no body will beat you to the job , then you are a winner and you will get the job. but certifications do not guarentee the job, you should have experiance to back it up.

Have to give you an "A" for effort. But you really need to have some experience in computers. I would suggest taking some courses at a local Community College. And maybe volunteering your services at a local school, to get experience. Getting your A+ certification is no guarantee of getting a job. Heck, I have serveral certs and have been looking for a job for over a year now! And I HAVE experience!

All I can say is... GOOD LUCK!

I don't want to discourage you but..... no.

These days experience is much more important. The A+ is a great place to start but don't expect employers to be drawling over you simply because of that. I know people who are A+, Net+, and MCSA and can't find a helpdesk position.

Don't give up though.... just realize that it takes hard work to "bust" into this field right now. Allot of people are volunteering just to get experience. I was very lucky to land the job I have now and am very thankful for it everyday. Through it I am gaining valuable experience. I know I have people with many more certs breathing down my back.

Once again please do not get discouraged and realize that the A+ is just the first step of many more to come.

Good Luck!!!!

i started in customer service and now i am an Operations IT tech watching over their Cisco routers,NT boxes and both AT&T and Bellsouth OC3 and OC12, and all i had was my A+ Certification when i started here in Operations but i got lucky, i did help desk support for Notebook and desktop systems for about a year and that only helped so much so i knew that i need to move on so i took a job at a company with a great tech department all in house and within less than a year i was in Operations " did i mention that i bugged the crap out of the tech till they started to listen to me but i got it" so to you i say get your cert and go out there and find a job doing anything to get some exp, good luck

i did not have any certifications when i started working on the helpdesk but i learned a lot by reading and gaining experience as time went on. i am now fixing pc's at my job location and taking certification tests to become a mcsa. work experience counts for a whole lot. hang in there and i hope you find something.

One certification will not get you anything!

It is not like you pass the CPA..

man, if you are patient enough, good things will happen to you. since you have no experience, you may have to get a helpdesk job. heck, in Orlando, Convergys will hire you if you know how many iRq's are in a basic pc and what the red stripe on a ribbon indicates. it may be for low pay, but you will meet other "geeks" that will have no problems showing you what they know.

it took me a whole year and 3 jobs to get over $30k and I started out with NO certs...now 3.5 yrs later I am in an IT dept finally and love it everyday.

I simply received my A+ Cert and now and am working at a law firm as a hardware tech. i do a bit on the software side and most techies are willing to share their knowledge. Everybody has a different experience and this is mine. and I am in Los Angeles, where there are plenty of techies around. Go for it, you wont regret it

actually i was quite surprised that everyone here at the firm is extremly polite and friendly. i think the fact that I fix their machines might have something to do with it
