I volunteered at the local brothel. The benefits were great.

Try volunteering for the local school system.

Try your local public school, private school, churches. They are always looking for tech help. Mainly because they don't have the money to pay someone to do a lot of stuff. your not going to be doing cuttng edge stuff, but your gaining experience working with hardware, networks, etc.

Cut your teeth there and work hard it'll pay off in the long run by making you good contacts and references for the future.

I've done vol. work for several churches and schools and you can't believe how greatful they are when you get them set up with a network that the kids can use for research.

Some of my best references come from the Parish offices for two catholic schools that were built up from nothing.

Here's what I'm doing... I joined a vocational services place (I think that's what you call them) that has career/job counslers meet with you, look at your resume, practice interviews. There's also workshops for learning to make great cover letters, etc. It's already helped me because according to them, my Resume kinda sucked and I have made some major edits to it. It seems like they will be a huge help.

Anyway, they want me to concentrate on an internship because I have very little experience. So I'm calling around. I know I have more knowledge than some experienced people in these jobs that want 500 years of experience, but ya got to start small huh.

You might want to look for an internship too ghaouf. There's no pay but experience is so so important.

What do you mean ghaouf? I guess many colleges offer career services. The thing I'm going to isn't college related.

That's the whole point of an internship, to get experience.

EN forums needs a spellcheck and ghaouf should be required to use it each time.

yes it needs it.
the good thing is there are no fill in the blank on the tests. some practice test all they have is fill in the blank i score realy bad on them. never realy consentrated on english because i was brought up in another county where i liked there language more than english.

Oh didn't realize english wasn't your first language. I guess that explains a lot.

I'll stop teasing you now since you have an excuse.

If you're looking for volunteer opportunities in the technical field, try http://www.volunteermatch.org. I also highly recommend looking up the web site of the United Way in your area. Nonprofit agencies who belong to the United Way frequently post volunteer opportunities on the local United Way web site. In my area, there are always technical volunteer opportunities listed.
