| Unfortunately that's IT agencies for you, they are all the same bunch of sales driven beings without a clue of what IT really is. Try applying direct to a company, as well as use your local job press. The IT job market is in a total mess at present all over but am hopeful it would swing back in the future. Don't give up, something would eventually come your way. Best wishes. | |

| Its refreshing to hear that IT agencies are the same sort of jumped-up biggots the world over.
The amount of rude, inept, mindless, demeaning and generally upsetting people i have had to deal with in my 8 years is in IT enough to make me breakdown in tears at just the thought of it.
There are good agents out there though, once you find one, be sure to keep his/her number.
The good ones tend to make it their mission in life to get you and you alone a job. Most are just looking for a quick sell*.
IT job hunting is a genuinely soul destroying persuit, in good times and in bad.
* I have a call at least once a month from the sexiest sounding woman from switzerland, about SAP jobs. I havent the heart to tell her that ive never worked with SAP. But she sounds so angelic a dare not.

| And one last thing Ybentrepreneur. Generally Agents will post around 8 resumes for a job. They will automatically know which two are likely to get the job however they still need to submit 6 other CVs.
What they tend to do is find people who are good and have most of the bits, but wont get an interview, just to fill the other slots.

| What I did was make friends with my headhunter. When I spoke with her the first time, I took great care to build as much camaraderie as I could in the phone conversations. By the time we got through I think that she actually wanted me to get the job. Through the process I called her frequently to try to get a better feel for that the people were looking for- how to dress for the interview, the style of the company etc. I told her that I was relying on her better judgment since she knew the hiring people.
Just like a lot of things, I think if you take the time to “sell yourself” even to a low-life recruiter they will be of invaluable assistance. Just think to yourself- I HAVE to get this guy/girl to like me and believe in me or my chances are going to be slim. I think mine ended up pushing for me in the end, and maybe that made a difference. |
