hey guys, how u all doin', I have couple of questions as I am trying to break into IT. I have A+ and Net+ but no experience to mention on my resume. I know I will have to start from bottom to reach top and I am also trying to find internships or volunteer work to get my foot on the door, but even though if i look for a low paying job I will have to submit my resume so wat do I write on my resume except my Cert's and my college degree (A.A)? In other words What to write in "EXPERIENCE SECTION."
A Cisco training centres in my town is offering CCNA course for cheap and they might also help me to find job or atleast mention them on my resume to show some exp. I m undecided now should I go for CCNA and meanwhile keep looking for a job
And 1 thing more where to look for entry level jobs other than search engines like monster.com, hotjobs.com or others which really don't help newbie's like me to find entry level jobs. I dont get much help from my local newspaper. So i dont know what to do, should I go door to door of companies to find ANY job? should I fax and email my resume to all companies? So guys I will be unpatiently waiting for ur help. Thanx in advance

Hi there,

frankly speaking, it's really difficult to find entry job in the IT Market. For example, when i started off five years ago. I am working as a IT Technican, doing all the basic and dirty work, fixing up,upgrading PC,installing hardware and softwares.

After working for a year, knowing that i can't possible to work in this position for the rest of my life. I hope to get into the network area, to learn more on the server management and networking. I apply to several companies, they are not willigly to take you in and train you up. Till now, i am working as a Systems Administrator for a big Japan MNC company.

It's require a lot determination and confidence. Dun give up and keep on working towards your goal.

One last thing, you need to know, what's your goal...Which area of field, you plan to go into. This definately will cut down your time in searching the right jobs towards your career. If you plan to go into programming, learn Visual basic and java. Database area, go for MS SQL and Oracle. Networking, go for Checkpoint, Cisco and Microsoft.

Good luck in your job searching.

... If you can't get a job from the school,
it is very difficult to get it now.

Very very very tough time to find entry level job.

Good Luck

Many times, people who get a cert feel like they are entitled to a job or feel acomplished. While this is a good thing, to feel acomplished, its not exactly true.

When I got my CCNA, I thought I would get a job easily, but then I realized there are thousands upon thousands of people who have CCNA or MCP or A+ or some other entry level cert who dont have IT related jobs. I also know CCNPs and CCDPs who dont have IT related jobs for one reason or another. On the flip side, I know people who have no Certs who are Network managers, Project Managers, and Associate Directors because they are college Graduates. (and I'm not talking AA or AAS, I'm talking BA or BS or MA). My advice, go to University, forget the certs for now, and when you graduate then go for the certs. Even to apply to the job I have now I had to have my BS in Engineering and my certs where just a bonus.

Theres no such thing as Entry Level Jobs, because there's alot of unemployed experienced people. Employeers know this and so they can ask for 3 or 5 or more years of experience, cus there are people out there who have that and STILL have no job.
