| I started a new job this last week and boy was the first week a baptism of fire. They gave me little time to get my feet on the ground before I was off and working on a major project. I did tell them that I would be looking to make contributions from day one and I guess they took me up on that.
I am going on the road for two weeks- one in LA to the company's technical training center and then to NYC to work in the corporate HQ for a week. I suppose the latter is to get to know all the people at the head-shed.
This is my first real exclusively IT job. I am happy and lucky to have it. When I read about people being out of work or that are having a hard time my heart goes out. It is a difficult thing to be in right now and jobs are hard to get.
I think you must be aggressive in your job search and be flexible to work in any industry. I think many want to sit in the ivory tower and be systems administrators but there are many other technical jobs out there that require MCSA/MCSE, A+ and Net+. I think right now there are many support jobs in the field for the oil and gas industry, medical industry and certain other sectors of the economy that are unhurt by the wars and recessions. They ay not be as glamourous as being a system admon that wears a white shirt and tie to work but some of them pay really well with plenty of benefits and ways to make money.
Good luck to all of you and hang in there. |
