I don't have any certification and looking for some advise.
I'm a student with computer science major in Database option.
I know how to do some basic stuff such as JAVA , C++, Scheme and have personal experience with web designing .

I want to have some certifications but I don't know where to start. I want to focus on database but also want to some other field too.

I was thinking and oracle DBA and MCDBA .
What other would be good to have ? please give me some advise.

With your degree in DBA, and if your interests lie there, I'd go toward that route. If you want to "expand your horizons" as well, you may want to look at A+, Network+, and Server+ to give you some foundational PC, network, and server support knowledge, as I suspect any of these skills could be helpful for a DB Admin. Also getting the MCP certs in W2K and XP Professional would help you get a better idea of the client workstation configurations. Really these lower level certs would probably be foundational for any Oracle or MCDBA certs, and could help broaden your options for other IT jobs, in case you have trouble finding a DBA job right off.

I didn't know CS major got special area on database....! Something new..

very difficult question to ask... you need to define your own path. What you want to do? What is your goals? As you know the market is not that good. So very difficult to find a area that everyone want.

But if you get 3.5 GPA and up.. few internship or co-op. U will get a job.

You might want to try to get some work experance by volunteering, if your not working in the computer field already.
Most employeers will be looking for work experance along with the CS degree, before looking at the certs.

If your still into getting certs, then start
with the A+ cert then get the Network+ cert. These will give you the terminalogy basics to help in trouble shooting, setting up or building networks or pc's.
Then pick up the Microsoft cert's like MCSA/MCSE or another flavor of operating system you would like to work with.

For answers to the books related questions check this forums search page to search the archives, those types of questions and others that you might have.
The book questions might have been already answered, unless you have a rare book.

If your not already working in the computer field.
