Hello everyone,
I have got my MCSE last month and I am wondering anybody around London UK that has the same qualification to help me how to get the job? because I don't have much commercial experience and when I look at the agencie's AD, they all ask for a 2-3 years commercial experience, I really don't know what to do.
I really appreciate any help.

I agree, and I've even asked our IT director here where I work, he said that certifications can actually hurt you if you don't have the work experience to back you up. Not too many employers, though, are willing to let you experiment on your equipment. Certifications are not to show that you read a book, but that you really do know what you say you know. If you have a cert and don't know how to do what you say you know how to do, because you passed the test and have never done what the test says you know how to do, you'll end up fired very quickly. So, let's hear from some senior members how we can break into this field. I love technology, and I want to show people not to be afraid of it.

but have either of you looked into doing some intern and pro bono work. I know it sucks as you really don't get paid for it but in the same right you are adding that commerical experience to your rez. Just a thought.

Yeah, that's the way to get started if you didn't get the experience in training. I have small children, and I'm not doing bad at the job I have, for my skill level, and you have to pay the piper if you want the music, but that sort of thing has to wait till my kids get into school and/or I can afford a few hours away from the paying job to do some intern/volunteer work. *sigh* if I knew when I was young what I know now.

Were you working in IT before your promotion? Your certifications are what I'm working at, and I've heard of MCP's, but from what I know (and I admit that's very little), MCP's are pretty much office staff certifications, which is what I'm doing now. I probably could pass all the MCP exams if I wanted to stay with this. That is, assuming that what I "know" about MCP certs is true.

Another avenue is to look for communications and cable installation companies. Kind of a back door into the IT world, you just do not want to stay too long or you may find it hard to get out.

Go install network cable, get familiar with the infrastructure side ofthe biz. Your contacts will generally be IT management. Drop a few hints that not only are you a cable guru, you have your "insert cert here". You may be able to tap the un advertised job market. besides alot of companies give employee referal bonus'. They will submit anyone in hopes of getting the free $$$.

Another back door is local user groups. Contact a local training center and find out about seminars or other meetings they might be aware of in the IT community. You go and rub elbows with members of the IT world and expand your "network" of contacts. Refer to previous paragraph about the referal $$$.

Alot of companies do not advertise openings. They go on employee referal, and headhunters. Do not be afraid to accept low $$ contracts. Frequently contracts go permanent.
