Haven't posted in awhile but been busy with the new job. Got hired in December 2002 with Kyrus an IBM Premiere Business Partner. They work on primarily on Point of Sale Equipment.

I had to go through a 3 week training course each week we trained 6 days a week and one week we did 10 hours a day. I service NCR registers,IBM registers, IBM servers, Lexmark Laser Printers, UPS systems, and who knows what else. I have only one account HY-Vee they hired 16 techs to put into HY-Vee stores and service there systems.

The company is real good at outfitting their techs they gave us brand new service vans 2003 with all maint paid and gas, all new toolkits with everything known to man in them, IBM laptops, and a full stock of parts at our disposal including whole units to swap with. I get $15 an hour plus a 100 dollars extra for oncall and double on sundays and holidays. Not totally computer systems but still real good.

My education is as follows AAS in Computer Systems Networking, Diploma in Electronics, A+, Network+. My work experience is 3 years at Rockwell EC as a Field service consultant and 1 year doing projects.

That wage may not seem like much but I've relocated for the job to North West Missouri about 45 north of ST Joseph and things are real cheap here the avg wage in NW MO and Sout West IA is between $7 - $10 an hour the $10 for management and Mostly Bachelors degree you might be lucky to find a factory that paid 10.

Housing cost here is real cheap depending on where you live which for me is anywhere I want (I support 19 stores over NW Missouri and SW Iowa) the range being $9000 up to around $40000 or $50000. The 100000 dollar home here would be a mansion or something. I looked at a $9k home and it had 3 acres of land and 3000 square feet in the country wow and was in perfect shape we are still looking at better deals.

The job market is still open but really flooded. The 26 that got hired were out of 700 applicants. They only interviewed 120 and then chose us the big thing for them was A+ and Network+ those are the certs they were wanting techs to have or Server+. Get those certs and start applying for hardware repair jobs and you'll probably get one. Glad to be employed and making money my rent went down to half of what it was in Madison WI and now I've got a brand new built duplex.

Just to think some manager in one of the forums here said I would never find a job shows what he knows

Sounds that a great opp, Jeremy, and thanks for the news. This is surely an encouragement to me about the job market.
