i am currently employed as an IT Technician for a secondary school and have over 1 year experience. Responsible for 250 clients 9 network printers standalone printers and a novell 4.11 server.

as well as that i am self studying MCSE from my home computer lab. I am considering looking for another job but i am concerned that it might not be the right move for me yet as i dont have any certs.

what should i do?

You can look around but I suggest you stay where you are. I wouldn't go anywhere until you have a solid offer from another company "in hand."

Keep studying, get a little more experience under your belt and maybe by that time the market will pick up.

Good luck

I do the same thing you do but I am in a elementary school. Keep your job untill the economy gets better. Work on your skill sets and keep playing around with your home lab.Potential employers want to see experience and school system tech support is a great way to get your foot in the door.

I am not sure if certs have much wait these days.

I wouldn't necessarily rush from your current position just if you pass some exams. Certs have some weight, but not what they once did. Rather, there is something to be gained by having some stable work experience. I'd at least wait until you've been in your current position a couple years, get some certs, then try making a move.

In this economy, it's likely to be a wait until you find a position worth taking anyway. With all the competition among very experienced admins and techs, even with a couple certs, you may find that you won't be getting a lot of calls.
