| Hi Everyone
Its been almost 9 months at my current project . Its a 2000 migration project from NT and Exchange 5.5. There was a another consultant who also got hired with me , he just got offered a full time position. For me it might happen or not next year (thats when the new budget gets approved ). My chances are 50%.
But I also got offered a another full-time position doing a AD and Exchange rollout =for 1600 users. This position will start next year if I decide to take it. The salary is not that high but I am recent graduate with only 2-3 years of Network Admin exp. Not sure whether to ask my current company that I offered a another position but I would like to stay here. As I like working in the environment/people here. Not sure what to do ??

| Stay with your current job. It will look better on your resume when you look for a perm job. Otherwise, you'll look like a job hopper.
Anyway, I did a contract for a rollout of 14,000 workstations and 1,500 servers last year. IT WAS BORING. You will learn more at your current job. A rollout for only 1600 users doesn't sound like it will last long ( 2 to 3 months maybe?)
If you look for a job, start looking for a perm job. If you have a degree and 2-3 years of experience, you should be able to find decent work.
Hope that helps. | |

| I think the way the economy is having different jobs doen't matter. Most of the jobs I had were working as a consultant which ranged from 6 months to 8 months. I guess I like working as a consultant
This project is going still long 9 months. But so far I have 2.5 years of experience but the position I got offered is a permanent one which might or might not happen with this one .

| Stay... u never know about the market at this time. Even it look like IT will be back soon... more opening. But more corporation is moving their IT section oversea (outsourcing)... so, ... watch out | |

| The decision is yours, look at the two job prospects and make a long term decision. However, if there is anyway that the perm job would last long enough then that would be in your own interest long term.
Just make sure the comp offering the perm post is genuine, as I once left a contract role to a perm only to be made redundant two months after words. Just carry out a good research before committing yourself.
I hope this helps as the IT job market is slowly picking up but at a slow and competitive rate. Best wishes and good luck on your endeavours

| Hi
My current job was supposed to be a 7 month project it got extended by 2 months after that there is a 50% chance I might get a full-time offer as thats what happened to another consultant.
Where is the other job is a job from the local govt which is genuie pay is not that great but benefits are ok . I am also thinking of doing my MBA and dont want to look like a job hopper but the most of the projects I did were consulting . As for long term prospects I am not sure , one thing I am sure that I wont get to work on AD as there are more people ahead of me . |
