I have MCP in NT 4 Workstationa and Sever.
Now MCP in Win 2000 Pro and Server.
Question is which test to take next,
70-216 (the beast) or 70-218.

I do want the MCSA cert 1st then on to
MCSE later this year.

current job with 2 years and not much
of a salary increase in view wiht the current job market. Looking to increase skill set.

Thanks alot.

I am not sure what exacly your point is at least you're working in IT. I think you should just continue to increase your skillsets and hopefully when the market picks up just move on.

well, depends how comfy you feel with things. I have saved 216 for last cause I felt that I would be more prepared after writing the previous 6. 218 is not a hard test, granted I had taken 210, 215, 217 and Server + before taking this one.

I'm just starting to study for 216 but you definately need to be able to do the hands on stuff. Idealy have your own little network to play with.

I have a question, do you think its better to take the 218 first and 217 then, and after those take the beast?

Thanks for your help, and Happy new year

Hi Luisjo, I think that would be your better route, there is no predefined "good route" to take, it's whatever you're comfy with. Personally I choose to take all the others prior to 216 for the experience.

For skill - go for the MCSE.

I agree, than you can decide what MCSE exams that you want to take to increse your knowledge

Thanks for all the input guys.
I have been studing for these tests for awhile. I have been using SmartForce software and the Readiness books.
I sent for the 70-216 training kit for some practice and have installed Server as a Domain Contoller here at home for practice and experience. I would like to build another computer to have 3 in home network. But $$ is an issue.
thanks,
kenny

Ignore JackieChan.
He is bitter for some reason.
Getting an MCSE the way you are going about it is not a joke.
Why
Because you will learn in the proccess.
With the experience you have it will help you along.
Jackie is just trying to decrease the competition in the job market by scaring everyone else out.

If you got solid skills then you already beat out %75 of the competition.
Because word gets around.
Other techs start calling you asking technical questions.
Just be sure to be helpful when you can.
People find out that you really do know and the job market opens up.

Correct me if I am wrong, but take your 218, get your MCSA and cound the 218 as one of the electives for your MCSE. Kill 2 birds with 1 test....

Sure, but you still need another elective for MCSA.

Chodan speaks gospel. Listen to what he has to say. The job that I currently have was never posted. Someone knew what I was capable of and the actual president of the company contacted me and asked if I was interested in a position with his company. So don't ever burn your bridges.
