Maybe you can give a little detail about the job. That might help with supplying any last minute advice.

| First It was a phone interview! They seem to be interested mostly in A+ Skills. The thing I like from the phone interview. was they said we see you don't have much experience, but you will get it here | |

Get to your interview at least 10 minutes early, even if you have to wait for 10 minutes to talk to whomever. Get a good nite's rest the nite before. If you smoke, then don't smoke before going into the interview. Make a list of questions to ask the potential employer. At the end of the interview ask:
"Do you see any reason why I won't be considered for this position? If so, why?"
Best of luck and let us know how it went.

| Yes, be sure to have some ready questions for the interviewer. Things like "How is IT support organized within your company?" (i.e. are their various levels of support: Level I helpdesk, Level II helpdesk, Level III desktop support) "Do you pay for training/tests as I plan on continuing my certifications?". Ask them how they use applications within the organization(like Citrix or remote workstation management, etc.). The important thing with the questions is to come across genuinely interested in IT at the company, and you should be genuinely interested if you plan on working there. If the interview just ends with only the interviewer questioning you, I guarantee they will be less likely impressed. The types and number of questions can be limitless, but try to be reasonable.
Really pay attention to your body posture and body language in the interview. You want to come across as confidently and calm as possible. This will make you look more flexible and able.
Also, a lot of IT managers will be looking at your customer service skills and your ability to work with a team, so don't forget to emphasize how your own experience and abilities in this area.
Let us know how it goes. Good luck!!

I like that! From my point of view I could probably also write: "Do you see any reason why I won't be considered for this interview? If so, why?"
High protein, light breakfast
Get there early. Work out the travel before.
Don't play down your skills whatever they said on the phone.
Careful with the body language. Look confident but not assuming.
By all means prepare a list of questions beforehand. Modify it mentally as the interview progresses and they tell you about the company/position.
Tell them why you are the suitable candidate for this job.
Good luck.
Oops !! You've probably already done the interview. Oh well, for the next one maybe ... lol.

| How'd the interview go?? | |
| stacy928 2002-07-09, 12:10 pm |
| Ok here is the kind of questions I got!
1. What do you do if users saids there computer dosn't turn on?
2. What if a user says there printer isn't working what do you do?
What would everyone have said for these questions.
Other then those questons there questions were not very straigh foward. I don't expect a call back considering that they were laughing when I left the room!
| odonata 2002-07-09, 12:48 pm |
| What do you think they were laughing at? I couldn't imagine them laughing AT you?? I hope not - if so, who wants to work for a bunch of jerks anyway!
How did you think the interview went though (I suppose before you heard laughing...)
Good luck, I hope everything went well for you!

| I know it sounds silly, but in both cases I would check the electrical cables and plugs first. These questions are simply not specific technical questions. The only way one could possibly provide a correct diagnosis in these cases would be to ask for specifics.
If they were laughing as you left the room, then they sound like rotten people to me.

| I got a phone call from the people that interviewed me today (tuesday) Now at the end of the interview they said they would call the people they wanted to come back for a second interview on Wednesday. I wasn't home when they called, So when I did get home I returned the phone call and no one was there. If they were calling to tell me they aren't interested in me I wish they would just say it on the answering machine! Well I let everyone know what happens tomorrow. | |

| don~{!/~}t be too aggressive during the interview. a lot of times, those hiring managers are very insecure and jealous, try not to make them afraid of you might become their boss one day. | |

| if they laughed at you they are JERKS!!
you don't need to be working with people like that!!

| It would be interesting to know what answers you gave to the questions you were asked, but here are my answers to them.
First. If the PC doesn’t power on, look to see if any lights are on the base unit at all, most pc`s will have a light to show power is at least getting to the machine.
Second. If no power light is on the front of the machine, check the power cable has not come loose, failing that, try another power cable. If you still get no life from it, its a good be the PSU is dead...But don’t forget to check the power switch, could also be faulty.
As for the printer question, the first place I would look would be the printer, check it’s online at least. Then in settings/printers and see if the printer is grayed out or even in there. Then work along the lines of, checking to see if it goes through a printserver like (HP JETDIRECT PORT or AXIA PRINTPORT) if it does, power it off, then on again, if it doesn’t and it is attached direct to the network, try pinging its IP address. If it is attached direct to the back of the machine, check all of the cables, then the drivers. You would find the majority of problems like people not being able to print to printers are to do with setup or comms, its not often its the printer at fault.
One of the problems with questions like these is that there is so much you can do, its hard to give one short answer, so as for the people laughing…. Sod them, I bet they couldn’t do it!!!!!!
Chin up if you didn’t get the job, loads more out there!!!!

| Here is the answer:
Stacy,
Thank you very much for your interest in the Technician position currently
available in our district. We will not be having you back for a second
interview at this time. This is not a reflection of your talent so much as
it is a reflection of the specific needs of the position and the level of
competition you faced. Thank you again and good luck
| davehills77 2002-07-11, 8:27 am |
| Well to be honest, sod em. dont worry, other places will be more than happy to have you working for them. | |
| stacy928 2002-07-11, 8:00 pm |
| Does anyone think I should ask this person what I did wrong on the interview?
For the answers two the questions I said check the computer to see if it is plugged in. Check and see if the power supply is on in the back and so on.
For the printer quesion I said make sure the printer is on and connected to the computer! Make sure the correct drivers are installed. Check and see if the printer is maked as default and so on.
| davehills77 2002-07-12, 2:30 am |
| I would think even if you did phone them to find out why, they would not give you the real answer... so i wouldnt waste your time.
as for your answers, i dont really see anything wrong with them, other than you should always start more basic than that, ie;- check its turned on at the wall, try a different lead etc etc. |
