| Hey, I was thinking about going for a degree in a Computer Major. Anyone know of good on-line training that'll allow me to accomplish this. Since I have 2 kids, at home training for this is best suited for me right now. I'll do some searching on my own. I'm asking for advice from a different perspective. Thanks everyone. | |

| probably two of the more well-known are Devry and AIU; I'm sure there are innumerable others such as Capella that will work with you if you already maintain 2+ years worth of undergrad units. Regardless, expect any of these places to indebt you to the point of indentured servitude...they are all running in the $25,000-$35,000 range. Best of luck... | |

| One other thing to note on **MOST** of these online degree programs. Most of the schools or shall I say organizations offering them are not accreditted. Meaning that if you recieved a degree from there and would like to continue your education at regular college such as MIT or NYU, they will not accept the degree.
Also, beware of the paper mills out there, as a lot of those onlione schools are just that. They will give you a BS in Computer Science or something for 25-30k. They give you credit for everything you ever did in life. I believe work expereince and technical training is worth something as far as a credit evaluation goes but when they start giving you 20-30 credits for life expereince that in my opinion is defeating the purpose of going to school and also (in my mind) makes those schools paper mills.
I have looked into:
Capella (Paper Mill)
Excelsior (paper mill)
One school that is completely online that is not a paper mill is Empire State College: they do give life experience credit and certification credit but the are an accreditted SUNY college. Although, I don't think they have any techinical degrees completly online yet.

FYI: I am attending NYIT this fall after researching all of these other colleges as I am in the same situation as you. 2 kids.. house.. dog..

| Well Phoenix is a rip-off. $410 per credit hour.
I'm looking at Capella now, only $210 per credit.
And they give credits for certs obtained | |

| A good place to look is into the big Universities. I am about to go back and IU has a distance learning program were you can recieve a degree in general education online and they are working on other degree programs. If you do this you can not be to concerned about what you are taking and just take what they offer online. |
