The A+ is a starting point, not really a terminal cert. Try volunteering at some local places to get some experience at references and then try your luck. And don't give up.

I work in New York City, and it is better than it was a few months ago. With an A+ cert and little experience, you should be able to get a help desk job. Just keep looking and tell everyone you know that you are looking for a job. I got my current job from a friend of someone who I met at a Mets game last summer. Human networking is key.

Good Luck!

Where have you looked so far? I would suggest going to computerjobs.com, dice.com, monster.com, hotjobs.com. Basically all of the online job searches. I live in Dallas where the classified ad space in the local paper is supposedly the largest in the country and I rarely see job openings but if you go to computerjobs.com and select New York there are about a thousand computer-related jobs. At least a few of these will no doubt be in the field you want to enter. Don't give up hope. Although it's true that the A+ will not be as helpful as some of the other more difficult or expensive certs it is not worthless. I also agree with one of the other posters that you should let everyone know that you are looking for a job. 3/5 of my last jobs have all been from networking. Good Luck!

I did go to all those online job sites, and I live half an hour away from Boston (another big spot for IT openings). My recommendation, dont waste your time with those. I sent out over 50 resumes online to those sites, and never got an interview out of them. If I were you, I would look in the paper, check for job fairs, and talk to people, LOTS OF PEOPLE! With only an A+ to start with, your best bet is to get your buddy who works for a big company or knows someone who works for a big company to give your resume to their IT manager or human resources with a good recommendation..

go up 128 to 95.... its exit 57 to give you a better idea. 5 minutes away from seabrook, NH and Hampton Beach. For some reason not everyone knows Newburyport, but EVERYBODY knows Hampton Beach (I think everyone in MA and NH pops up their to the meat market at least once or twice in their lifetime). Where is Pelham? Somewhere down near Braintree or something? I don't remember passing through it at all.

Maybe I've just been lucky with the online job search thing. You may also try looking into IT Staffing companies in your area. The first job I had was with an IT Staffing firm and I got contracted to work with many different companies and was able to do a lot of networking this way. My second job was at one of the companies that I had been outsourced to.

You guys are bringing back memories. Although I currently reside in sunny Southern California I spent my formative years in Everett, MA just north of Boston. When I fly home now it's to NH. My family has all moved up over the border to Londonderry.

Perhaps the next time I'm home visiting the family we can get together for a drink somewhere in Manchester http://www.plauder-smilies.de/beerchug.gif
