Author Are there any recovery signs for this year

I would like to know everyone's opinion about the current economic downturn and if they see any recovery signs for this year. Earlier on today I came across an article relating to signs of the European market recovering especially for IT were forecast spending is predicted at 6.6%.

I am not sure if this is the same for everyone else out there be it the states or even other parts of the world. Lately there has been alot of layoffs especially hitting the IT sector mostly leaving alot of skilled IT prfessionals jobless. It would be great news to see and hear that there is a recovery because am beginning to run out of patient going to interviews with people twice as more skilled and experienced than me obviously leaving me at a disadvantage.

Lets hear your opinions on this, cheerio.

Paul Harvey said the unemployment rate had dropped to 5.5%, although I don't recall what the high rate was.

In my area the IT jobs in the paper had increased some since last September, but then a telecom company laid off 25% of the workforce here. So, I think we're back where we started.

I've seen alot more job offers recently than before down here in the SE. It looks like things may be turning around. (fingers crossed)

Well, I finally got a job about 2 weeks ago, after being out of work for 6 months. Since then, I have gotten to job offers in my email. After 6 months of nothing, I would say 3 job offers in as many weeks is a good sign that things are turning around.

I hope things are turning around, I have just over 2 weeks before I am on the street, so to speak.

Which company are you talking about darthw? I work(ed) for Verizon Wireless, and they just laid-off 1000 employees! (Talk about cutting your own throat!)

onoski,

Do not be disheartened that there are people out there who are:

1.Smarter than you.
2.Have more experience than you.
3.More knowledgeable than you.
4.Have more connections than you.
5.Richer than you.
6.Work Harder than you.
7.More persistant than you.
8.Have more certifications than you.
9.Communicate better than you.
10.Have better references than you.

It is a jungle out there and only the strong survive. A little bit of luck helps.

That spiel will depress everybody.. it sure depressed me. Don't worry about everyone else bro, companies are concerned with what YOU can do for them. If you can convince them that you will be an asset to their company, it doesn't matter what anyone else is doing (or if they are better at it then you are). Confidence is key in interviews. In order to convince the company that you are valuable to them you have to feel that you are the best at what you do, whether you know in the back of your head that that isn't really true. Don't listen to Jackie, know your worth! Some company will realize it too, and you will have a job before you know it.

Interestingly enough I had a call from Verizon about a job in this area with them a few months ago. I had just started my current position, so I wasn't interested.

Williams is the company here that just laid off a bunch. I think Telecom companies in general are having some difficulties.
