Hi folks,

you may remember my rant from about 3 months ago where I stated I was having no luck with finding a job in IT. Well, 10 months since I first began searching for a career in IT, after 500 applications, 200 phone calls and 6 interviews, I now have a job as a "PC Support Analyst" well and truly secured.

good starting salary too!

Thats all!

Seeing somebody else get a job after that much looking is better motivation than watching "Rocky."

Well Jackie, there really is no secret to it as you will find out shortly....

My interview was supposed to be starting at 11:00am. I stepped off the train 15 mins late!!! and then spent the next 1/2 hour trying to finding the place, hence arrived eventually at the office 45 mins late!!! and if that wasn't bad the mobile phone went off half way through the interview!!! what a bloody nightmare!

I walked in and said to the chap straight away "I know this is not a good situation to be in and if you want to terminate the interview thats fine by me". He looked a bit pissed, but said "ok, we will have a quick one". The interview lasted literally 12 mins compared to the hour others had. After the interview I was really depressed because I knew I had blew another brilliant opportunity.

My recruitment consultant called me and after I had explained the situation to him, naturally he was a bit upset seeing that I had just wasted his time.

Within 6 hours I got a phone call from the guy: "congratulations, you have made it to the second-stage interview!" Out of 7 people, only 3 were put forward for the second-stage interview. I almost fainted when I heard the news.

The second-stage interview was pretty straightforward, the guys were easy to get along with and I got a lot across. I got a phone call the next day and was given the good news. Starting date: April 1st

If you have been searching for over 12 months, blame the market situation. Also it doesnt hurt too much to tell a porky or two on your CV - They ALL do it! Also, what helps a great deal is ones flexibility. There is a downside though, it is going to take me 1:40 mins each way to and from work this is something I had to accept.

In all honesty, the following are factors which contributed to my success: Employer is expanding rapidly and needed to fill the positions ASAP; I have 6 months work experience (working for free) with an IT Solutions Provider (very basic duties, although I was capable of doing more); MCSE almost complete; MCDBA to be undertaken (they use SQL heavily); I redone my CV to reflect the job description a little better; lots of luck and last but not least the love of God!

Best of luck!

Congratulations!

Hope it doesn't take me that long though! Don't think I could take it. Just got notice last Wednesday that I am being "downsized". A fancy way of saying the company is cutting the fat so the upper echelon can have a bigger bonus!!

Oh, well, I usually land on my feet. Hoping to have another position before my severance runs out!
