Hey everyone!! First time user looking for the best way to get a job as a technical contractor for companies like New Horizons, ExecuTrain, etc. What kind of salary should you expect and how tough is it? I think it would be a great career but I don't know where to start. Thanks!!!

Hi pleasurepoint,

I just took a quick look at both those sites and I didn't see any job vacancies advertised. If you are just beginning out then it is OK to E-mail them. Express how you are really interested in pursuing a career with a company like theirs, and ask them how you may go about it. Here are their details.

Best.

We need CIW trainers here at Solid Computer Decisions. You have to be certified though. We have a whole program you can go through and then start working when you are done. I know I'm dreading teaching both day and night classes next week.

Oh, and $40-45K per year to start is possible

Drummer i took a look to your site. Pretty interesting format for the flash intro. The music is what is catching on to me.

Hopefully you'll get people to help you withthat pay also.

Thanks RichardJW. Drummer, cool site! Actually, I am an M CIW D and know a little Java, ASP, Cold Fusion, VB, etc. Perhaps I will apply for a job. Thanks for the info!

Pleasurepoint, where do you live? You have great qualifications. We'd love to have someone like you in Chicago. The company really wants to get some Cold Fusion people on board.

BTW, that is not my site. It's my company's site.

Drummer, I currently live in Arizona but will be moving back to California within a year. I knew CF 4.5 pretty well, but due to Java's stronghold on the server market, Cold Fusion took a backseat to JSP. I am so glad that Macromedia got their hands on that server and can now get it the popularity it deserves.
To be honest, we could use a drummer out this way. My brother and I are thinking of starting an Ozzy tribute band and could use a good drummer (I'm assuming your moniker is factual).

pleasurepoint do you want a job or do you want to start a rock band?

RichardJW, the rock gig is just a hobby, not a full time endeavor. I still know my priorities.

Oh well. We're supposed to open up California locations but I don't know how long that's going to take. You can see on the Flash intro where we are now.

It's factual, although I haven't played in forever. When I get a real house (I had a townhouse for a while) I'd like to get another set and put it in the basement or something.

Drummer,
Definitely let me know when your company opens up on the West Coast. Sounds like a great team to be on. But the starting pay doesn't sound too appealing. Oh well....
Hope you get a house soon. You have a 5 piece kit now? Yamaha bass drum, Paiste cymbals, etc??

PP, I think I missed the part about contracting. You can make a bunch more contracting but it's not steady. It seems like contractors always want to be full-timers.

I don't have a set at all now. Had to sell it in college.
