Where's the $0k/year option? I'm still looking for a job.

Me =$60,000 presently (not in IT field yet)

But regarding your question:
{{I was wonder what everyone makes for an average person with A+, MCSE, MCDBA?}}

Remember, do not get certs because you think many certs = mucho dollars. You need mucho, mucho experience. A BS or MS degree with this combination would help greatly.

A+, MCSE, MCDBA + No experience = $0.00

Without any experience you will not see much money, this business has changed and no more free rides.

Totally depended on the local market from where you live and cannot be compaired because of the difference of standard of living.

I can say I made less than most of you if I convert the Canadian dollars to US dollars but I'm in the middle in my area.

how much do you think a person with a college degree in Business Information Systems and certifications (A+ and MSCE) would make in the NY/NJ metro area?

{{{how much do you think a person with a college degree in Business Information Systems and certifications (A+ and MSCE) would make in the NY/NJ metro area?}}

Depends how much hands on experience you have. How much experience do you have?

well..none really. i've been working with (fixing, maintaining, upgrading, troubleshooting etc) computers for nearly 10 years. im only a freshman in college, i was just curious of what i can expect when i graduate. i do plan on doing co-ops, interns and possibly even going to temp agencies

Hi, When you graduate you can plan on about $30,000 - $40,000 because of lack of experience. Your 10 years before college doesn't count.

By the way, I've been in the field for 8 years, am in upper level management, and make six digits.

Also, I have a BS in Computer Science.

I think that when Certs first got popular, there were alot of people rushing out and getting their MCSE's with the hopes of getting these huge salaries even though they had no real experience. By using Braindumps, they were able to get their certifications but they had no clue how to do anything other than memorize test questions. Thus the term "Paper MCSE" was born.
These days, experience carries much more weight than any piece of paper, although it is expected for most IT proffesionals to have the certs just to make it official.
I have been in the IT industry for about 2 years and I earned just over 50k last year. I am working on my BS in Imformation Systems Management, I think that and some more time in the trenches will yield a better income than any certification...

There are certian web sites that help you gauge what you should be earning. I go to
Wetfeet.com and it gives me a ballpark figure.

Those who are looking at the southeast. Good Hunting - none in here!

The only problem with these kind of poll's are they don't really reflect a true salary. You have to take into considerations things like benefits(insurance, stock, 401K), company incentives(training, vehicle) and also the current cost of living in your area.
I make $48,000/year with the following.
4 weeks paid vacation/year
company vehicle(which I can use for personal use as well)
$4500 training allowance/year
Company matched 401K upto 7%
$1500 stock option bonus each year.
100% paid Health & Dental insurance for upto 5 family members.
I live in the mid south where cost of living is average and taxes aren't too bad yet.
SO..................... Just to say in the 40's doesn't tell the whole story...

I live in the south east and would take a job paying 20,000 just for experience, but so far have not been able to find one. I have two associate degrees and have done co-op work at the college also. The south east either wants someone who has lots of experience in one certain field or has lots of experience in every kind of field. Heck, I have at least 200 applications out and haven't even gotten an interview yet. The south east is dead for newbies right now.

I`ll have to agree
I live in rural KY and made 40K last year
But I also live in a 2200 square feet turn of the century restored home and my mortgage payment is only $650. per month.
Something are more expensive like broadband internet or cable tv but for the most part I would guess it costs half as much to live here as compared to a large metro area.
Also my company provides insurance double matching "up to 5 percent" 403b retirement
lots of training 2 to 3 weeks vacation, 2 weeks sick/personal.
Many contract people may make 60 to 80K a year but they have to pay there own health and retirement and when its vacation time they don`t get paid.
Still there is alot to be said for being your own boss.
