Hello all,

I noticed the other day while perusing ITmoonlighter.com a job with a few positions that I had applied for through another recruiter. The job reqs was exactly the same specs almost word for word and at the same locations. I really find this most interesting.

I am over qualified for the position, but I will take any work now because I need to eat. Now, the recruiter told me that I have a slot on the team, and the project coordinator would call me with when and where to start work and all the rest of the details.

We have exchanged all of the necessary forms, etc. I have not spoke with the project coordinator yet, but what I don't get is this, if he has the techs needed for these positions, who is advertising on ITmoonlighter.com for the same positions?

Are the recruiters trying to see just what talent is out there? Or could it be that they just don't have all the techs they need, or maybe even trying to see how many they can line up and then play "negotiation 101" with? This may be just wisdom on the recruiters' part, but I find that hard to swallow these days.

These days I have grown somewhat hardened to deceptive practices and I try to be extremely wise and sort of "ahead of the game" as they say.

Anyone ran into anything like this?

Peace

They are just a bunch of sales people without a clue as they are only interested in gathering CV's to present before an employer. It's all about the money as they don't have any professional flair in carrying out their business. Remember they are only out for what they can get and that's the commission. Nuff said hope you get the drill.

Recruiters are leeches. I use to install small networks for them and some of the shifty things they do there is below the belt. They would sell their mothers for commission. Use them like they will use you and dispose them.

All good advice. Here's some more.

Never believe anything they say, period.

Never submit your CV to any except the most reputable ones (of which there are few) unless you want it to land on your bosses desk. It happened to me.

Never call them to chase up an application. They won't call you back. If they want you for an interview they'll let you know and at least that way you'll retain some pride.

Luchnia, get the picture? Give up on the recruitment agents. I advise you not to linger too much on them. In fact, I strongly suggest that you forget all about them. Are you unemployed? If so, you need to be concentrating your efforts on getting a job and railing against recruitment agents is not going to achieve it ...

Recruiters are not very into the positions that they recruit for. They tend to hire pretty women with no pc/information tech competency and just waste people's time. I recall wanting a contract to do some sql databases/ ecom years ago and had done rdbms and had a good track and was one of the first to nab the mcdba cert. This gal was very pretty and sensual but dumb as hell when it came to helping me get a contract. I would explain the positives of the mcdba with my good track of networking/databases/security and she was like HUH? what are those? Yup... nuff said.
before i even met this recruiter she was talking about her las vegas plans and partying.. nuff said!

sex sells even in IT recruitment. Wear nice lingerie and attach it to your CV and you will see the tremendous amout of replies.

Women are paid less than men generally for a similiar position. I'm not sure about the *sex sells* bit. Are women recruited on the basis of their looks or so that the boss can get to sexually harass them? Either way it is easier for a woman to find a job generally but less so for high-paying positions. Is it true that recruitment agents are more often than not *dumb, pretty, sensual but stupid women*? No it is not. This aside, there's highly qualified people out of work with lazy, incompetents filling the positions that should be theirs if there was any sense left available. However you will find the odd agency where all the employees save the boss or two is comprised of *dumb, pretty, sensual but stupid women* but that's another story.
