First I just want to say hello and grettings to everyone...this is my first time here and thought it would be cool to become involed with everthing that is going on here..I have a question and need suggestions

I am currently a senior in high school and about to exit out this May.Im currently enrolled at a 2 yr course at a vocational school which is supported by my parish{county} .Computer Electronics teaches you hardware/software/hands-on trouble shooting techniques all that will prepare you to be A+ Certified before graduation.Im kinda in a difficult situation at home and have been in for the last couple of months.I plan on relocating and finding a good paying job based off my A+ cert.I also plan to gain more certs and hopefully a year or two when I get well on my feet I will then attend a 4 yr college to gain my BA degree in a unknown major.Do u believe that with A+ Cert"just starting out" will give me a good standard of living just taking care of myself."I know that different areas have different pay but location isnt a problem,Jus say working anywhere".Im just 17 and wont turn 18 until next Sept. Do you think that age is a major factor in getting into this IT industry? What would u suggest i do.....i ask for everyone that reads this plz help me,because im really uncertain about this decision. It could be a the biggest decision i have to make to this point in my life. Thank You
Leisha

Sounds like you're at a definite fork in the road. I don't know what it's like where you are but where I live, with just an A+ cert, you can only get a bench tech job making $8.00/hr at the most. If you're asking for advice I would tell you to get as much education as you can while you're young and before life really gets complicated. It tends to do that! Years slip by if you're not careful. Get as much practical experience as you can too and don't be afraid to volunteer. It not only gives you experience but it's a good opportunity to meet people who may be very helpful in the future. Good luck!

I know exactly what you're saying. Yeah, most likely you are looking at $8/hour, which is not bad to live on while you're young. Many do it on $6. Be wise in your spending and such.

Get all the education you can really, don't know the community college. A decent ACT score and you can get a free-ride in a Junior college and you will be prepared to go to a 4-year, and saved a lot of money. There are also need-based grants/loans for students to aid in living expenses. Nothing wrong with the vocational, but you might find the 'academic' will open more doors for you and give you more options. You have to decide, of course, but if I were in your position I would really look into getting into a JC and studying on my own for A+ (many free and cheap resources) and take that and get a job at a tech shop (like CompHellUsa, or whatever) and look into need-based grants. Well, hope this helps you.

"A+" not going get you anywhere at this time.

It was OK, but not now...

Unfortunately what Kasor said is true, but you have to start somewhere right.

Don't base anything you do on $$$ right now. Hit the books and computers hard and it will pay off down the road.
