Author Where to Start??????

Hi

I have seen in various posts that "There is no job available for a person with certification if he/she does NOT have experience." And I know it is true generally.

I am curious. Where can a person start if he/she has no experience?

. . .
You cannot wake up one morning and suddenly have 3 years experience! You have to start somewhere.

What does the industry expect? A baby to have experience when he/she is born?? So that he/she can write OCP-DBA with 5 years experience in his/her resume?

Who is better? A person with nil experience but with at least one premium certification. or a person with nil experience and no certifications. Seems both are equal.!

Luckily, 7 years back when I started my first job, they recruited fresh graduates and persons with no experience as well. The result is that I have now 7 years experience

You answered the question in the last paragraf of your post. These days you need a BS degree in addition to the certs (or BS degree alone) to get a job with no experience.
Please no flames. If you know of another method, lets hear it.

I have a BS degree.

My worry is about those who do not have it!

Well, those starting out(with no experience) who DO NOT have it, will
either have to get it, or go into another field.

I agree.

Also with some luck (need it)

I started as an Electronics Tech and was able to transition to the software side of the house. I know some others who have been able to do the same. The only thing was I had to get towards the top of that field, before I was able to cross over. It's definitely a hard way to come up.

With no experience you have to network. If you know someone in the computer industry they can help you get a job especially some IT manager. There are not many positions for inexperienced people. Even if you have a computer science degree, you must have gained industry experience somehow.

{{Even if you have a computer science degree, you must have gained industry experience somehow.}}

In four (or more) years of college, how could one not gain any real world hands on experience? As a hiring manager, I would think that was a bit odd.

I just wanted to highlight the irony.

A person with a college degree even is expected to 'have' experience.!

Where will he start?

Ever hear of Internship, Help Desk, Computer Lab? Today, the bar has been raised much higher (even in a good economy), and it is uncommon to graduate college with no related experience in IT. I guess if you are one of those unfortunate souls, you are out of luck.

Experience is key, try talking to friends or close business pals and maybe setup their systems for them and get something on that resume.

Well guys,

I have a job and 7 years of experience. So, please stop advising me on how to get a job.

My concern is for those young and 'seeking' a job persons.

What I was wondering is the lame excuses given by the employers given to new freshly graduated or certificated guys/gals.

In my view it is all supply and demand theory. If demand is more, they will knock at your door even you are a paper (or pencil) MCSE, CNE etc. They did not worry even if you had been cleaning tables for 10 yrs and you got MCSE yesterday.

Now supply is more than demand. So CEO can hire his/her son-in-law or another relative!

So how is a person like me, just getting retrained in this field after major back surjury, going to find experience???
P.S. I live just outside of the Boston area!!!

See, if you are a fresher ( No experience in IT), you can just try, try ..n try applying to jobs which demand 0.6 - 1.0 yrs experience (apart from for freshers).

If you are lucky, you 'll be called for Interview, if you can prove yourself there,
you are the KING then.

I saw half of the movie. Having eaten a large curry and downed half a bottle of wine I dozed off in the middle of it.

I assume they sank in the end?
