I have just completed my A+ and Network+ courses and am looking to get a job. I am finding most jobs posted on Monster, Hot Jobs, etc, all are looking for experience. I would prefer to get into network admin rather than PC tech, but I'd take either-I am currently unemployed. I cannot afford to do a full time internship or anything free, where can I find entry level, experience gaining type positions? I am in CT, if it matters.

You said that you finished the courses, but have you taken the certfication exams yet?

I have also seen the job postings at the different job websites like www.computerjob.com , and they require a lot of experience. I would recommend to check the local newspaper for different job openings. Also, on those job websites, send the resume to the email address of the Job Cordinator, don't just post the resume from their site. I have heard that you have a bigger chance of being called for an interview by doing so. Voluonteering, is the best way to get job experience.
Good Luck,

I have not passed the exams yet, but I have them scheduled over the next 3 weeks. I have found a possible job at Comp USA, but like I said I'd rather be in networking, and not sure how to get from PC tech in a few years to networking. TIA

Work your way up, don't jump into a position thats way over your head.

Hey I hear you loud and clear about the $$$ issue. The network positions are good money sometimes but they will not touch a rookie -no offense.

Dont take what you can, but take something that you can gain experience and possibly more certs.

If you dont have at least a year or 2 of experience most companies will not let you
be a admin, maybe a network tech.

It is hard some times starting in the IT industry, some techs dont like helpdesk or smaller tech jobs but you have to start some where.

Just start! The rest will come!!

Good luck!

Hey BroncoTom,
Good Luck on your tests!
I recommend that If you can work at CompUSA as a tech, don't miss the opportunity. It will be experience for you, and make things easier to get into a NetAdmin Job.
Again Good Luck!

XF is right. Don't pass up an opportunity just because it's not what you really want to do.

Take the job at Casa De USA (I bet you didn't know they are owned by a corporation in Mexico). Gain some experience building and breaking PC's. Try to work into the installation dept where you go out to client sites and perform installs. You'll need the hands on to get an admin or net tech position.

Another thing. Don't go to AOL if they have a call center near you. My old company shared the parking lot with an AOL. Because I used the technology entrance in my building, guys and gals would wait for us to come out and talk to us. What I heard really shocked me. Most of these people took the job, thinking they could get some good experience under their belts. Alot of them were MCSE's because AOL pays for schooling. But because they were working with proprietary software, they had trouble even getting interviews.

Be wise, but be realistic. No one is going to hire you as an administrator without two years of experience.

Good Luck.
