I have my MCSD (I took VB and SQL Server design). I am a VB/ASP/SQL Server developer. I don't want to go for the MCSE since it is a totally different area from development.

However, I am interested in getting my MCDBA. Do you think it will strengthen my skill level? Do the MCSD and MCDBA complement each other? In my opinion, the MCDBA will help me become a better SQL Server developer.

Any advise?

Yes, I think it will strengthen your skills. For someone with your skill set MCSD and MCDBA are probably the two best certs to have. MCSE's not really that relevent to you.
