Yes I suppose that we all should be happy that we have jobs at all. My company just laid off 5% of it work force yesterday, so I guess they still think they need me around and besides who else would there be to tell them to REBOOT IT!!! But I still want to hit them with a big stick. I have spent the last week on the phone getting prices for 27 different PC configs from 3 different companies….fun fun fun, and you know what? IBM won the bid…. what about that.?!

but that does not mean anything, just 12 more PCs that I have to keep up on the same pay...right...

Why do they laid off worker? What is their job function?

Is the company re-engineering their structure, or routine policy to make company sharp!

Ummm... if they are laying people off, wouldn't that mean fewer people to support?

After all, you have to get rid of some people so the execs can have their new computers...

I was working at a manufacturing company that was canceling our outsourcing contract. Thankfully, I saw it coming and found something comparable, even less stressful, before I was forced to find a position. At the end of the contract the outsourcing company terminated the other two techs on the site. I can assure you the contract wasn't terminated because the client company wasn't pleased, rather they have been able to hire the same number of techs (though less skilled) for less than half of what they paid for outsourcing. Of course, there was a clause in the contract that prevented the my team members from getting hired there. Thankfully, at least one of them found another job on a helpdesk.

Yes it is probably good to have a job right now. Work hard to show you're valuable.

I work for a gold refiner and times in the jewelry market are not at there best. It never is at this time of year, but this year is turning out to be harder then most. I think we are going to see a lot more people laid off in all lines of work in the next 6 months. I am the only PC tech, LAN admin that we have on staff so until they find someone to pay less then me to do the job I do. I don’t think I am going to be out of work anytime soon. But anything could happen. All of the people that were laid off were factory workers that had only been with the company for a year or less. I have been we the company, going on, five and have work in the jewelry industry for most of my life and moved to the tech field to avoided things like this. I only hope that this is not the start to a major down turn in the unemployment rate.
