| I've been in this field for almost 4 years now, and I'm currently a hardware tech. for a steel company. I've been trying to get experience on the back end of things, but I can only get exposure to the client side. With no experience on that end, no one will hire me past PC hardware.
I also have loads of experience with Windows NT from my home labs, which I have my own web server and ftp site currently running.
I'm currently A+ and N+ Certified while persuing my CCNA. I've also hold a general certificate for Network technologies which I've atained from my local trade school. I would like to get ahead, but I can't get the experience.

Any Suggestions?

| Hi JFN1319!!
If you can, volunteer to do some NT work even at your current job. This will get you experience while you continue to pursue your certifications.

| I suggest getting a hold of Windows 2000 and Whistler. Since you're already proficient with NT, these two should be easy to pick up and will make you much more marketable.
I agree with slapomoma's idea.

| Also get your cisco certs. These certs will make you very marketable. Certifications won't get you hands on, but they show that you are a self learner. Get as many certs as you possably can. Since you're pretty good in NT...maybe think about the MCSE 2000 track. I see tons of W2K jobs out there paying good money too. Good luck my friend! | |

| I have found that if you know people in the IT field, just as you would in any other field, it definitely helps you get the job versus sending loads of resumes out.
I would try maybe joining a users group if you are in a larger metropolitan area. That could lead to some job openings. You never know.

| keep on trying. A lot of times you have to make the call, send a resume or whatever just in time. So just keep trying | |

| Sometime is difficut to get hand-on within company because it is not your job and some co-worker don't like that.
Recommend to go for non-profit org, they always welcome people for weekend or P/T assistant on their system.
As other said, go get the CCNA, then MCSE
Still track on Win2000.
Is your current company able to give you better advance on the IT field? Think very carefully... |
