Well, the handwriting is on the wall, and it looks like my company is going to be closing the office where I work. They have already laid off everyone in their corporate offices that works in our division. I'm new to Sacramento, so I don't know a single person in the city and that doesn't make facing a job hunt an enviable task!

I was hoping to stay in my position until I finished or nearly finished my OCP Application Developer. At this point I am not really ready to tackle an Oracle development position (although I'd love to -- I learn MUCH faster on the job). My current title is IT Manager and I built the technology infrastructure in the office from the ground up, and am solely responsible for maintaining it. (It's a small office.) But I'm really more of a "Swiss Knife" when it comes to my job skill set. Some network admin, some MS Exchange, solid database development experience in Access and Filemaker, some project management, and computer support and training. In short, I'm long on skills, short on verifiable experience and no certifications yet.

My skills are probably best suited to a temporary or contract-based agency at this point, and I'm available to travel. Ideally, I'd like to find a Junior Programmer Analyst position with a company that fosters employee growth, but that will probably have to wait until I have a little more programming experience under my belt. But I definately want to move into the database development area.

Can anyone recommend an agency that might have need of my skills? I'm in Sacramento. It should be a national organization, or one that serves the Northern California region.

Also I have so far been unable to make contact with any fellow geeks in Sacramento... truly, I've been trying before now, not just when my job security looked poor Although there are some organizations in the Bay Area, they seem to be in short supply here. Is anyone aware of any groups here, or fellow geeks that might want to make contact?

Thanks,
Nicole

Dice.com is an old friend, but I haven't looked at computerjob.com. THanks for the lead.

Nicole,

It looks like you have some great experience. Have you thought about www.techies.com? I almost took a job I found through them in Las Vegas. Good Luck
