| I recently had an interview and I was asked about salary preference. Well I really didnt have an answer so I told them that It was negotiable. Well I have been in the Navy for 6 years and 4 years IT experience. I have my A+ and Network+. How much do you think I should ask for? By the way I am going to be working in Houston. I have been on Salary.com but I dont know if those are realistic salaries. What do you guys think? | |

| I left the Navy in March/01. I came out with 3 uears IT experience and with almost all of my certifications listed under my examnotes profile. I did have my MCSE and I am now working in Boston, MA. I have to honestly say that the cert's got me the interview, but it was my knowledge and experience with migrations, upgrades, and a variety of other situations I've been in that got me the job and the pay I expected. You should know what I'm talking about here as you too are coming from a similar back-ground. What are you worth? This also depends on your role. What posistion are you appplying for? Help Desk, Desktop Support, Systems Admin etc...? Looking at Salary.com from my own perspective, I'm making above what most people are pulling in now because of the situation with the economy etc. I got my foot in the door just in time, or depending on how you look at it...I made the jump just in the nick of time. I would think that if you look at Salary.com and take the low average of what they show, you should probably be able to make that. Anything more, well...that's dependant on how you sell yourself and how much the company needs your talent. Good Luck. | |

| It take awhile at this field..
Bad market! Want cheap and experience worker!
A+ and N+ is nothing compared to real working experience and techie that deal with desktop, support issues. And admin work on Svr, MainFrame, network problems...
Need to get more certs (professional) |
