| For those who care....I went in for a job interview today and was surprised at some of the questions they asked. It was for a sys-admin job. The reason I was surprised was the questions seemed a little easy considering the job was not an entry-level position. Here are some questions I was asked;
What's a hub?
What's a switch?
Define TCP/IP?
Name two things a packet contains?
What's the difference between Cat. 3 and Cat. 5 cables?
A user cannot log on, name some possible problems?
What type of jack does UTP use?
What's the subnet mask for a class B address?
Anyway, these seem pretty simple considering the job was not entry-level. They were looking for a few years hands on, and it paid about $55,000. Not too sure if I got the job, but I did have the answers to the questions. Do you think these are easy questions, or is it just me?

| Seem kinda easy to me for $55K, unless that's peanuts in your area. In Oklahoma, $55K is making some decent cash. | |
|
| You don't mention Win2K-based sysadmin, Linux-based sysadmin, Solaris-based sysadmin, BSD-based sysadmin...
$55K is really good for a sysadmin job these days

| Guess that they were just looking to see that you wern't a paper cert or a fake cert. Those were some pretty simple questions though, almost easier then questions that you woul get on a A+ or CCNA exam. | |

| I would say these questions are paper cert questions which means the hiring officials do not know what they are looking for as a sys-admin.
The questions were just based on facts....(something you can memorize)
Weird......well I hope you get the job
You will be KING!!!
Can you get me in....lol

| Maybe the company is hard-up for someone. Hope you get the job, though. Sometimes what we consider "simple" isn't as simple as we think. They might not have been just looking for an "answer" to be correct, but how you answered the question. Did they mention anything about another interview with other people? Some companies like to start with a simple interview then progressively get harder as candidates get weeded out. |
