Hello.I did post my resume into all web sites and all what I got a bunch of commercial to my email ,so I believe posting a resume is a waist of time.

Give it time, summer. Posting your resume is not the most effective way to get a job, and it's certainly not the only way. I found my first IT job in the city newspaper. This most recent, I found on a website, but they didn't come looking for me.
You have to pursue finding a job just like working toward a cert...it takes lots of time and energy, and the only way it gets done is if you do the work.
I posted my resume on monster, hotjobs, flipdog, etc. to have a base to work from. I trolled those sites every day for new positions and I applied to everything I thought I wanted and had a shot at.
But that's not all you have to do. You then have to follow up: emails, phone calls, etc. Because again, they're not going to come looking for you.

One thing I will admit about posting online is most of the unsolicited calls I received were from recruiters. This isn't necessarily bad, but you run into a big chance of not having all the facts before you go in - this happened to me this round. So if it's a recruiter, just ask A LOT of questions, and make sure they tell you who the company is (especially if you're talking to multiple recruiters - the last thing you need is two recruiters trying to put you in the same job...ouch). If they won't, then back away slowly.

The only other piece of advice I can offer is you need to know what you want. If you're new, it's easy to say you just want any entry level thing....but the problem is the market doesn't think that way. Know which areas you really want to focus on and that will also help in your search, your determination, and your confidence.

Best of luck and don't sell yourself short!

summer,

Just keep at it. It can take a while. I'm in the DC area and was laid off on 9/11/01. For 3 weeks, I posted my resume on sites, and specifically applied for 125 jobs, some of which I know I was more than qualified for. I got maybe a total of 3 email responses.

The job I finally accepted on 10/4/01, was a company that got my resume from a friend of a friend. So networking is definetly one of the best ways to get a job.

It really all depends on the market. Since there have been so many layoffs recently, many companies are flooded with people applying for their few open positions. When the market was good, the HR people had to do the searching. It will turn around eventually.

Good Luck!

As Gammann says, persistence pays off in the end!

It's also important to have a polished resume. Are you happy that you are doing yourself justice while still keeping it concise enough to catch an employer's eye?

On the subject of posting resumes online, I saw the results of a survey which said that 77% of companies now say they recruit more from online methods than from traditional i.e. printed media. However, I think that this is generally through applicants to the companie's online ads than by the companies approaching candidates who have posted their resumes.

Good luck with the job hunting.

I agree with the previous posts. It took me nearly two years of looking to land that first computer job.

The websites can work. I was called by my 2nd employer from a website resume. And it wasn't a recruiter, although I have received many calls from recruiters. (Some were for good positions, but at the time I wasn't looking.)

Try newspaper ads and agencies. Also try www.workopolis.com and sent(not email) resume to companies.

I find out sending resume is better than emailing it. Most of the replies are posts I sent the resume out when I did my job search last year.

Good luck.
