| Hello everyone,
I was wondering how some of you got your start in IT. I have A+ and Network+ certs. and soon to have i-net+. I've worked for free for 3 months and done two temps jobs. but having a hard time finding a full time job. I don't know what to do, If I should go to a temp agency or what? I look on some internet job search sites and the newspapers. If anyone has any ideas as to what they did to get started it would be great and help me and many others I'm sure.

| I got my "foot in the door" by starting out working for a temp agency and eventually converted over to a "regular" employee.
So do give those temp agencies some consideration.
And like PotatoHead said - look on websites. If you haven't already, hotjobs.com, monster.com, & techies.com come to mind. You may even wanna check out the temp agencies posting jobs there, such as Volt, Excell, & Hall Kinnion.
At least - those are the ones with job offers in my area - Seattle, WA.
Anyhow - good luck! I know these times are harder than usual... but you can do it!

| THE PITY FACTOR:
in your interview say:
you are dying from cancer and have only 3 years to live and your last wish is to have an IT job. Trust me it works.
your boyfriend or hubby is dying from cancer and his last wish is to see you have an IT job.
your dog is dying from rabbies and its dying wish is to see you get a job.

| Sometimes we just get lucky. I know while I was going to school, I worked as hard as I possibly could. I lucked out and my work didn't go unnoticed. The school I attended offered me a job just before I completed my courses (Computer Applications Specialist, A+ Hardware Technician and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer). I guess what I'm saying is don't give up...your hard work will be noticed and rewarded as well. Good Luck | |
