| Well, I just got laid off from a great, fun little start up company. The price one pays for taking the chance I suppose. I learned a whole lot there, since I was one of only two people responsible for the entire network. In the 8 months I was there we went from NT4 to Win2k, I installed several servers on my own, learned way more about SQL 7 than I thought I was ready for, and mastered the art of successful backups and restore operations.
I guess I have the summer off now to enjoy and curl up on the beach with a good technical book about Network+
Anyone else feeling the strain of the economy?

| You did take the chance and gained 8 months of valuable experience that you can add to a resume , so don't feel too bad , maybe your up for a break anyways , guess job security is a thing of the past , it used to be people spent 20 years or more at a company , now you're lucky if you can get 20 months , oh well thats the future of the world of work I suppose , I guess , we always waiting for the other shoe to drop
Good luck on finding your next gig though !

| I know, my company laid off 8 people the other week. It didn’t affect the IT department, but if business does not pick up in the next 6 months it might. I had also gotten approval on a MSCE course but it has been cut back to only 3 classes now. I am hoping that by then things will have picked back up and I can stay on track. | |

| Pavlov,
I am so sorry for your job loss, it must be a scary. I do envy your experiences, though. Everything you have had to learn in the last few months must have been hard but it also gives you a major plus for your resume. It should also give you a confidence boost because you had to learn all of that in a pinch and you did! Kudos to you.
My job has great benefits, wonderful people and a top salery for my area of the country (Canada) but I get almost no hands on experience. I study and write certs constantly as a job requirement but don't really get to apply what I am learning. It makes it hard to remember what you have learned and doesn't build confidence in your own abilities.
I am sure with your knowledge and capabilites you will have no problem finding a new job
Keep you chin up and enjoy what I am sure will only be a short break.
Good luck to all! | |

| Cuts happening here today, too. I don't *think* I'm on the hatchet list today, but I don't know yet. I still think they are moving toward closing our entire location soon.
And I'm in a VERY soft market at the moment At least I have a couple of days off next week to go to the Silicon Valley WITI Summit.

| Yeah I know what you mean, I am starting to feel like maybe I should start looking around again, but I have been here since 97 and you know the last hired first fired rule. I am scared that if I change jobs now that I would not have the new one very long with the market turning. At lest here I know that have some seniority. | |

| Good News!!!!
I got called back! I go back to work on Monday. It feels like I just got a 4 week paid vacation, which I used to get my Net+ certification and redo the master bathroom
