Hi, I'm a new member - just joined today. I am indeed female and am a Network Analyst in a team of 20 guys! I spent the first 14 years of my working life in Administration and decided I needed a change. I have my A+ and am now working on my Network +. For me it was a totally different career move, but one that was very worthwhile. Glad to see I'm not the only one who is 'into computers' (as my friends say!).

I just joined today as well and am looking to expand my skills. I have been working in Accounting/Finance for several years and can't stand it. It is so boring now. I just got my A+ but I am wondering if perhaps I should just go back to school for a masters in IT. I think it might be faster then wading through all of these certs.

I am also new at this. I am studying for my A+ certification. I am doing all my studying at home. I bought the A+ cert. for Dummies and the Build Your Own PC books, hoping they will help me.
Do you know of any books that may be better as far as helping me know what I need to know. Or maybe some sites that will help me get my certificate along with getting a job and staying there. I would like to climb in this business as far as I can. But I was told to start with the A+ because I know nothing about a computer!!!!!!!! Any info. to help me out, I would really appreciate!!
Thanks!!

Hello Tlowery and welcome.

Another good book you may want to try is Mike Meyers All in on A+ its very good. The Build your Own PC's book should be helpful to you as well if your not familiar with the parts of the computer. Good Luck

Getting your Master's would be a good idea, as they do tend to make more money and have an easier time getting hired, but few colleges have adequate network-trianing classes . . . they seem more geared towards the programming side, so it all depends on what area you deccide to go in. If it's programming, a M.S. may be a good idea, but for network support or computer fixit work, you may need to find a special school like DeVry or stick with the certs. Just my thoughts.

I am new too. I just recently got my A+ as well. I would agree the Mike Meyer's is the best. I am using him for Network+ as well even though I have been told it is outdated it is easy to understand. I will just pay an updated book once I get the jist of everything. Good luck to ya'll.
