I'm going to start reading for MOS and wonder if it's a must to have the "Certiport practice exams"? The CD isn't too expensive but if it will help to pass it might be worth it.

Please give your opinion if you have used the CD and what it helped with?

THANKS

No you do not have to get the CD. The CD just gives you a feel for the exam format and some practice. Try using the Microsoft Press Excel XP Step by Step $29.99 from cover to cover and you will also get some practice. I hope this helps!

Great to hear your opinion! I'll go for the "Step by Step" books

I agree that the Certiport CD just gives you a "feel" for the testing environment.

I have found that DDC publishes excellent certification courseware. Unfortunately they seem to have recently been purchased by another company, and I no longer can see the books on line to refer you to.

The Certiport Testing CD was a waste for me. I am hitting 93% - 100% on each. However the reality is as follows:

Word Expert (Passed)
PowerPoint (Passed)
Outlook (Passed)

Excel Expert (Failed Twice)
Access (Failed Once)

The tests I got the higest scores in Excel & Access I failed. The others I could barely pass the practice tests and I did fine on the live test.

Someone said it gives you a feel. That is all you get and nothing more.

What about measureup.com?

MeasureUp has some good tests that mimic the actual test pretty well. The Word XP Core test, however, has several questions that are difficult to answer. My students got more hung up on the difficult questions that they missed the point of using the test to get the feel for the real thing. The Excel test is excellent though. Good simulation.

Hi all

The Certiport CD is fine for what it is, but I prefer the DDC software. The DDC software also gives you feedback on what you got wrong in each step of each question with a chance to re-do the question with help if required.

DDC can be found at http://www.ddctraining.com/ although I have only noticed site prices available. If you go to Prodigy you can buy the software there for approx $50 Prodigy. The Step by Step books are also quite good. Another good book to get your hands on would be the Thomson Certification Circle Office XP book. It includes all objectives for each exam with data files available for download.

Hope this helps
