I passed the Excel XP CORE test last Friday. Now I am working on the Word XP CORE. My intention is to work on MOS until I pass all the tests in the office suite. I would also like at some point to pass the Excel and Word XP Expert tests.

Since I passed the Excel exam, I applied for a couple of jobs the day I passed. Someone already called me about an interview. They seemed quite interested. My only problem is that when I asked how much of the job was data entry, he replied, " about 50%". I feel that data entry is boring. Learning these Microsoft applications is very interesting. Having enough knowledge to pass one of these tests requires much more skill and logical thinking than does data entry.

I guess what I am asking is what is a realistic job expectation after you have passed the MOS? Also what is a realistic salary?

Hi,

I don't want to pop your bubble, but you have to realize MSOffice is an office
software. Data entry is the primary target
for this software. If your taking the time
to get certified, I would study a little harder and shoot for the the Expert/Training
status. That way you could apply at a community college and teach the software.
Community colleges are beginning to require this certification from there instructor to teach MSOffice Aplications.
Another approach to use your certification is to Create templates and write vb macros
to help automate the office environment, you could, maybe, make a little cash from
this. Your Certs would validate your ability
when you approach a potential customer.

A good book to look at for this is
Office XP Development with VBA by
Peter G Aitken.

Hope this gave you a broader view

One advantage of MOS qualification in IT Helpdesk work ,and desktop support as well is that 40% of fixes on a helpdesk seem to be outlook related, and about 5% seem to be people who are having problems with word/excel etc ...... if you want an IT support job .... MOS certs can only be a good thing, along with experience of the job

Might I ask what your passing scores were for your MOS tests?

Score really doesn't matter as long as you pass.
