Just finished the Word XP Expert Exam. 620/1000 to pass; 16 questions, each with an average of three (mostly unrelated) tasks to complete.

What I've read in other posts was on point--know macros (the simple stuff) and all workgroup collaboration topics. Also need to hone up on the Insert Object dialog box and Paste Special options as they relate to pasting data from Excel into Word. Surprisingly little ( one task within one question) on Mail Merge on my particular exam.

The biggest surprise was the quality of the exam itself. Certiport has greatly improved the exam engine and required all tests centers to upgrade hardware. It was worth it. The exam itself is also far superior to the 97 and 2K versions. Certiport seems to have taken a giant step forward in creating an exam you can be proud to have passed.

My only complaint was with the questions concerning using Excel data in Word. The questions were very poorly worded and it was often impossible to tell exactly what the task required (did they want a straight copy and paste?, a copy and Paste Special?, an OLE link?) Another small concern was the use of the word "paragraph" in several questions. A Word expert should know a paragragh in Word is anything between two paragraph marks--several questions were phrased so that it sounded like they were referring to conventional, English-class, paragraphs.

Couldn't have hurt me too much. I passed with a high score. Good luck.
